I’m quite convinced that soon we will be able to reproduce exact images of long dead actors/actresses, a chilling thought, this will make a/c scenes a ‘piece of cake’ to produce.
This has already been partially done with Steve McQeen using the car chase from Bullitt using a Ford Puma and the cast of Happy Days for Citroen cars (I personally prefer the Ford effort).
Best aerial sequence for CGI aircraft I think is the Spit/Mossie sequence by that Japanese bloke that has been floating around here. The air to air shots and sound could almost be real aircraft altough the quality does wane slightly for the Mossie landing but the sound is still very good.
For real aircraft then either BoB film especially in the outtakes used in the three part Documentary shown recently or the F14/A4 and F5 sequences in Top Gun. The Dambusters though dated now were very good sequences shame we wont see that sight again (oooo….. Three Lancs in formation at low level….. mmmmm .. Nice).
Anyone notice it has a Tornado Fin?
IIRC most of the aircraft uses Tonka parts The rear fuse is modified F3, main undercart, canopy and a lot of the avionics that werent ready for the aircraft all came from a Tonka. It also used RB199D engines (The D denoting thrust reverse removed).
I think it was a mod made when one of the countries in the consortium who were supposed to build the rear fuse pulled out when it was the ACA program so to complete the airframe Tornado bits were used to create the EAP prototype. I may be wrong though.
I still have the means but as I said the tape is now rather worn from overplaying. 🙁
I was hoping it had been released on CD so I could replace it. I will just have to get another tape to enjoy!
Many thanks for the link

Though I never met Steve, It is obvious that he had a profound effect on everyone he met and that he is ( and will always be) held in the highest regard.
For that I raise my glass and salute you.
Hear Hear, he was a true gent. God Bless you Steve.
I spent a week there on ATC camp when they had Hawks, Hunters and Gnats – Great.

My first flight was as an ATC cadet in a DHC1 Chipmunk WP896 flying out of RAF Woodvale late 1983 with Flt Lt J B Longstaff as PIC. My lasting memory of it apart from the shere awe was how old they smelt even then and trying to keep my left knee out of the way of the pilots copious use of the brake lever. Like others posted here it was over too quickly. Thankfully I did get several more opportunities since and was rather sad when they got replaced with the SA Bulldog.
The only aviation related Item I found at a car boot was a Corgi USAAF comemorative gift set with Sally B, P51 ‘Big Beautiful Doll and P47 No Guts No Glory for a fiver.
This thread got me thinkin about all the shows I watched as a kid one that came back was ‘The Machine Gunners’ from about 1983. Set in WWII about a group of schoolkids finding a downed German aircraft(Me110 or Ju87)and pinching the rear gun out of it.
There is a story in Jack Curries book ‘Lancaster Target’ where he flew a Lancaster back from Hamburg minus wing tips back to where the ailerons should have been then tried to land with bombs on board! they eventually ditched the remaining bombs and landed safely
Anyone remember an Australian TV series from the seventies called Chopper Squad flying around in a Bell 206
Also no-one has mentioned Airwolf – a heavily modified Bell 222 and Blue Thunder – Gazelle I think?
There are some great shots in post 201 too. Ray Hanna RIP
bump – quick reminder
The US viewing market is large yes, but it must be one of the most pathetic in the world when their studios (which lets face it do a lot of market research and know who they are making films for) feel they have to alter history in a historic film to the point where it becomes fiction, even trash, simply to make it more, um, believable to them. Hmm. I expect some backlash to this statement from US posters, but you are not the mass viewing market films are made for. You are the ones who do know and care about history enough to be discussing it here. I’m sure you’d rather see the truth as much as I, rather than extra explosions, love triangles and all the other attachments to “true” stories too. It cannot be just the filmmakers’ to blame, it’s society I believe.
I agree Dave I tried to make this point earlier in the thread but ended up wording it wrong and got accused of being xenophobic. you only have to look at past films (U571 springs to mind where this has happened) where this has happened
