Welcome – glad to help Chris. Believe me, it was not an easy thing to find!

Yours will be the first Hurricat profile I’ve seen to have any spools illustrated. 😎

A lovely profile Chris – no front spools though?

Wonderful, incredible, fascinating pics Tim!! I’ve scoured the internet, books and magazines, IWM and other archives for over 2 years in research for my project so to see so many unique photo’s is very exciting for me. 🙂 Great caption too – how does it end? 😀

& this was me – out of FW range, of course. Do I look like a hunter killer?? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v164/photo04/RAF2/self.jpg

Dunno, but I’ve heard it’s the quiet ones you have to watch out for! ;):D

Oh sorry, offloading then – missed that somehow. Excellent pics – can you make out what the other 2 Hurricanes are (codes/serials)?

This new pic is a GEM!! First photo I’ve seen detailing the metal hold back strip that breaks when the rockets fire. A detail I’ll have to add now. Oh how I’d love to see everything in that photo book of yours Tim!!! 😉 🙂

    Good – 3544 it is!

    LU-V? That would be luvely!!

    PS Which have you seen?

OK, I’ll do it! What was the serial Tim?

The pics were a series of 3 showing the Hurricane being hoisted aboard ship. Very small images so cannot make out a serial #.

…the only small blemish to an otherwise outstanding bit of work is the metal Hurricane!

Yes, agree on that, and to explain, I’m really much more of a diecast model collector these days as I just don’t have the time for kits very much anymore. I augment the diecast collection with the occasional modified and/or repainted model, and the diecast Hurricat started the whole CAM ship project off. As the diorama progressed I realized it was reaching the level of detail that would call for a proper kit Hurricane, so that will come in phase 2 of the project in a few months.

Actually seeing your model, make me think that would be an outstanding subject for a museum full-size diorama – if a little on the large side.

That would be fantastic. I recall reading on a forum somewhere that a CAM ship catapult arm is in the posession of a museum in Australia. If it’s true, I’d love to see it become the basis of a full-scale replica.

Keep the pics coming, if only for Tim to marvel at what it all looks like again!

Will do – I’ll add the finished pics to this thread. 😎

” open canopy and pilot in place, capturing the moment before launch”

With right forearm raised to signal the FDO?

    Yes, exactly right Tim. 😎

Thank you Tim. Coming from someone who was there that’s the highest compliment I could receive!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ve seen a few of your pics of LU-V. Maybe when I model the kit Hurricane to replace this diecast one I should choose your livery! Would that be ok, Tim?

The project is finally complete! Since this is not a model builders forum I’ve posted a full article on the build over on the Britmodeller site. Here’s a link to it:

    CAM ship Hurricat article

If anyone cannot view it let me know and I’ll post some of the photo’s here in this thread.

I’d be honored Tim, but are you sure you want to go up that ladder again?! 😉

Johnnyboy and Steven, thanks very much – appreciate the compliments. 🙂 There will be a ‘next stage’ to this later this year where I’ll replace the diecast Hurricane with a 1/72 Hasegawa kit Hurricane I. It will be kitted out with catapult spools, etched brass flaps and cockpit detail, open canopy and pilot in place, capturing the moment before launch. 😎

Well, finished at last!! And wouldn’t you know I’ve now got 2 days of dark, rainy weather to delay taking any decent photo’s of the completed article.

When I can get to that I’ll put together a new thread, but for now here’s one very substandard pic. Colors are badly skewed by the combination of ambient and tungsten light. I really should invest in a photo booth.

Catapult and shuttle are fully reassembled now and ready for paint. 😎

    The access ladder is underway.
