    I think it may be; is it not just a set standard for any pressure vessels no matter what they are used for? I know the company ours were due to go to do scuba bottles.

    There’s a water trap on each compressor, and a felt filter before the bottles too, so hopefully they stand a chance of being reusable. If they pass the test and come back certified as fit for use then we’ll be good to go. If not we’ll have to look at other solutions.

    1850? bah, come on boys, give those griffons some damn stick:rolleyes:, get em up to 2200-2500, get some boost going, and save yourself all that plug cleaning!!;)

    Not until we get something on the other side stopping her want to continually turn to port!!

    Jeff, glad you like what we’re doing with 963!

    Regarding your photo, there was some good co-operative work done between 8 sqn and various Shackleton units in Khormaksar, the Shackletons often acting in an Air Observation Post role directing the fighters.

    Ironic, given many years later which squadron was to operate the AEW variant of the Shackleton!

    Regards,

    Rich

    ps. Updates for earlier posts:

    We went to 30″ boost and 1850rpm on both engines.
    Air bottles working pressure is 1,030psi. I got mixed up with the capacity.

    Rich,. if you have all the AP’s it might be wise to go over the prop and all the bits if you havent done so already and make sure you have everythig thats needed before peter arrives. He’s a great chap and once you guys have gotten the prop assembled it will bode well for your group as experience if you have to take another prop apart down the road.

    We’ve already got that in hand. The blades themselves are bagged and in the aircraft, the other bits are being gathered and put on one side. We’ve got an assembly jig on the way once it can be collected, the prop tools and slings are all in a box waiting. I was also informed we have the use of a crane when we need it.

    It’s a job I’m looking forward to taking part in.

    As discovered by Don and you, I believe, way back in March 2010. Either way, you fixed it, it’s gone. Hopefully for good!

    Seems a long time ago… just think; in three months time it’s a year since we all stood on 963’s wing and watched the Nimrod arrive.

    We were rather surprised at how well No 3 ran given the wear. We had it up to about 1,850rpm, though I can’t remember what the boost gauge was reading. The misfire No 3 had the last time we ran (way back in Jan 2010) seems to have cleared too.

    Both engines were behaving more or less the same, the only slight difference was No 3 seemed a little slower to respond to throttle inputs. Having said that the throttle linkages are very stiff – even without the friction locks – so they need attention before long.

    No, the cams didn’t get changed.

    Plans are being made to change No 3 completely at the end of the year though, which will get rid of the problem entirely. From what I’ve been told, the only good cams we have left in store are on good engines. We might as well swap an entire unit rather than risking an engine that might have metal floating around in it with a new set of cams.

    For now, No 3 is behaving reasonably well and we have a long way to go before we look at 963 moving. We’re confident we can have her live during this season so long as we’re careful and monitor things carefully.

    mjr, Peter;

    Its not hanging them that’s worrying us, we’ve got access to a crane.

    What worries us is putting them all together from blades, spiders and other assorted wierd lookin’ bits. 50% of our team is now under 30 years of age and most of us don’t even know how to assemble a regular prop, let alone one that forms part of a contra rotating prop unit. That’s why I asked Peter Grieve to give us a hand when he has the time.

    Ben;

    We’ll let the insults slide. I did call Blue_2’s aircraft a leaf blower… (amongst other things :p).

    Rockhopper;

    Without having the AP here to check, I think the working pressure is about 600psi.

    Regards

    Not me. I’ll confess.

    I haven’t been able to ride a bike since an op about five years ago. To be honest I really miss it. I’ve thought about getting one of those recumbent trike things, but they’re even less visible than your average bike, so decided not to.

    i think the scrape down the side was perfectly reasonable seeing as i was doing about 15mph and he cut into me after deliberately overtaking to cut in just before the corner

    and no you wouldn’t you’d look exceedingly stupid spitting your jacobs out just after you got out !!

    what other options were left but to bang on the side he was shouting loud enough

    and in a van in that situation the only way the driver will probably hear is by doing so

    i’d certainly prefer that if it was my van rather than putting someone in hospital

    but then logic doesn’t come into it when you can’t get past the mindset it’s only a metal box eventualy it will be a metal cube like 95% of them

    No, its not reasonable. Its about as reasonable as thumping someone, like that idiot van driver did. That’s the point.

    Logic? Logic says that if you see you’re going to hit something, then whoever’s in the wrong, just stop. Logic doesn’t suggest acting like a retarded lemming and running into something deliberately. Most of us stop doing that shortly after learning to walk.

    I will admit I am defensive of my “metal box”. The reason being its a possesion I enjoy. Why should I allow you to damage it without me inflicting similar damage to your bike? As I said earlier, if I just wandered up and kicked your bike to get your attention, what would be your reaction?

    I don’t usually mind cyclists. Apart from the odd one, the majority are alright and we do tend to get quite a few of them up here in the peaks.

    However… what I do take exception to is ANYBODY banging on the side of my vehicle. It’s vandalism. Grab my attention reasonably when I’m about to do something daft, and I might be more sympathetic, but I don’t care that you might want my attention after you’ve taken offence to something. We don’t go slapping cyclists to get their attention if they misbehave do we? Or maybe kick their bike to get their attention?

    As for T64’s statement about “cheerfully scraping down the side”.. 😡

    Try it.

    I’ll cheerfully see how you like a new career, as a crash test dummy.

    Also when you’re on the floor with your elbows back to front and the remains of your mountain bike stuffed up your ****, I’ll remove your camera before I drive off too.
