    I would feel conned.
“Any old Lancaster will do for these mugs” springs to mind.

It’s also a terrible photograph. Apart from lighting etc. (Which can be sorted out very easily these days) the principle mistake of ANY prop. photograph is to freeze the prop. NEVER freeze the prop.

    From Paris with Love.
Usual humour and bullets with John Travolta killing all the scum in delightfully glorious ways.
    Good story (ish).
    9/10 for entertainment.
5/10 for cinematic experience. (Nowt new)

Men of that calibre do not pull legs without confessing a few hours later. They enjoy the exposing of you in front of their peers, all part of the fun of winding you in.

If you can see C turret on that picture; you’re a better man than me, Gungerdin.

As for the “Story” of the Ghurkas, I drank in great celebration with 13 members of 2 para on their homecoming. Photo’s of proud Ghurkas etc. and lot’s of stories. Some crap, some not so. I was given an Enamel mug made of Steel about 6 times as thick as the British version. It was left with a grenade under it (Old trick) but our lot just threw stones at it to get the cup off the grenade. It went off somewhere else. I was also given some Argy cigarettes, name escapes me but red packet. It was like smoking pipe tobacco that had been cured in a sewer.

30 year rule is for stuff that got us “Miffed”. 100 year rule is for stuff that got us “Rather bothered”.

erm, the Government want you in the car. Revenue from the fuel duty.
They tart it up with other minor tax incentives but at the end of the day, 1 litre fuel gives 60p (ish) revenue in duty and another 17.5% on the VAT.
There is also VAT on the Duty!!!!! Talk about getting kicked in the testi when your face down in the mud!

MOD EDIT: Please remember that Item 15 of the site owners’ code of conduct also applies to you, old shape.

As a kid I loved the Zoo visits. I have taken my kids to the Zoo and they have been just as happy as I was. I don’t like them now, but at least they do see/smell and sometimes touch the animals. At a later time I always make sure my kids understand (Via Nat Geo.) what the animal would prefer, and how it lives / eats etc.

Whilst I’ve mellowed a bit, thinking of the Father doing the donating.I now have a “Feeling” for the situation. But the operation still costs the taxpayers a fortune, and it needn’t have been if she smelt the coffee.

Well me old Creak, you can start or finish where ya like.

Her guns were at anger, not in line – fore or aft.
Modern ships with a piddling 4.5 incher can fire fwd or aft. If Guns like the ones shown, which are very similar to the Belgrano are fired in-line, there would be structural consequences to her, and a lot of whiplashed crew.
The Photos can only see one turret, there’s a bridge in the way.

The Senior PO having a beer were exactly that – off duty. Their peers would have been on duty with Skip or XO.

For all that you have read, I was told in an Officers mess by a gentleman with too much scrambled egg and fruit salad to be called a liar.
I suppose you didn’t read about the American mercenaries (On the wrong side) that were beheaded by the Ghurkas and their Khukuri either? Ask people in 2 para. that were there.
It’s unlikely you will find much written about the (Genuine) assistance we got from the USA either.
I guess you’ll have to wait for the 100 year rule.

    General Musical discussion thread

    …continued from the Hummer.

TBH, the Vinyl isn’t getting used much these days, it’s just FAR too convenient to throw in a CD or put the Mp3 on. And, when I’m in Vinyl mood, I need to sit in the central armchair (With tweeters at ear level) and actually listen. with a nice 5 star Metaxa.
However, I’m married with children and sitting down and listening doesn’t seem to be on the agenda unless I’m getting told off.

Edit…..Oh, this was meant to be a new topic!
