Mathematically, the shot at 18mm FL should be sharper than the 62mm.
However, the 18mm DoF will possibly be bringing a bit of the UV glassware into the equation. This is an obvious problem of using 20 bucks worth of glass in front of 300 bucks worth of finely tuned lens. AF digitals have got a habit of not liking filters, so unless you’ve got a top-notch filter that is as pure as the glassware in the lens, I wouldn’t bother with them. If it’s a lens protection issue, use a deeper hood.

PenPusher. The EV (Exposure value) will be the same for any shutter speed if th camera is on an auto format. The TTL meter will take care of the 1/5th or less of an F Stop that the UV may remove.

When the Pilot bangs out, the “Sensitive” stuff is automatically torched isn’t it? It is on modern platforms…just assuming it was then.

You have to make allowances because it in the colonies, they are from convict breeding stock after all.:D

They probably got the best stock!
Our “Stock” has inbred that many times they have toes on toes. Prince Charles does the “Gimme 6” with Phil the Greek!

Like Pedigree dogs. Poorly, inbred, no longer the breed they once were and cost a fortune to keep.
The yard-dog mutt however will live forever on crap food and never see a vet.

From a fellow Fighting Newfoundlander no less!!!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Furlong

Rob Furlong, a former corporal of the Canadian Forces, holds the record for the longest confirmed sniper kill in combat. Established in 2002, it exceeds Carlos Hathcock’s 1967 record of 2,286 m (7,500 ft) by 144 m (472 ft). Born in Fogo Island, Newfoundland, Furlong taught himself to fire a rifle ambidextrously.

In 2002, he participated in Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan’s Shah-i-Kot Valley as a member of the 3rd Battalion of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI). His sniper team included MCpl. Graham Ragsdale (Team Commander), MCpl. Tim McMeekin, MCpl. Arron Perry, Cpl. Dennis Eason. A three-man al-Qaeda weapons team was moving into a mountainside position when Furlong took aim with his Long Range Sniper Weapon (LRSW), a .50-caliber McMillan Brothers Tac-50 rifle. He began firing at a fighter carrying an RPK machine gun. His first shot missed entirely, and his second shot hit the knapsack on the militant’s back. The third struck the target’s torso, killing him. The distance was measured as 2,430 metres (2,657 yd / 1.509 miles).

    A Noofy!
……hate to admit this to a Canadian, but the long distance kills were only achievable once US ammo was used.
1.5 miles. Incredible. The video of it used to be on YouTube.

    You could be right.
I’ve had some sad looking RAW images which when viewed in Canon DPP with the sharpness tacked up 2 notches have changed dramatically.

But, down in NZ where the air is clear as clear can be, and all that light…….should be sharp as a carpet tack.

Soooo…. Canada is gonna send 10,000 men to replace them then? Including combat troops of course, because even if you don’t know it – there is combat going on in the north.

So long as Canada keeps sending those Snipers!
What’s the current record for a kill, 2,300 metres? Fantastic!
