Why does France still have control of land in South America? The people of Guiana should have their own country, not be owned by one thousands of miles across the ocean. I can’t believe that here in the 21st century, some European countries still have colonies, or as they are called, “overseas regions”.
The superior nations used to run the world.
Slowly, they are handed back….and then usually such places turn to rat**** with one or two exceptions (And they have taken 50 years to sort themselves out).

Spotter at Ringway from 1966 to 1974. Then went into girls.
But work in the Aerospace Defence sector…started off making and have moved through ratefixing/budgeting/selling weapons and/or Aeroplane sections/parts.
Thanks for the advice – I remain unsure about the use of photo bucket and how it actually operates
Cheers for the response
It’s a loose site, SPAM will be a small problem. I set up a specific Email address on Yahoo for dealing with such sites. I still get the SPAM, but the majority of it is not on my daily Email address. (That gets SPAM too simply because it’s on the net)
Hi,
personally I put my pictures on Photobucket and then Copy/paste the IMG code straight into my post.
To get them into a suitable web format I use “Save for web” in Photoshop CS2, and I make sure the longest side of the picture (Of which 99% of mine are landscape) is 500 pixels wide. This enables the viewer to see it on the screen without side-scrolling, which is most annoying. I also make sure my file size is about 50k, this ensures rapid screen loading and also gives good enough quality for screen viewing but not good enough for somebody to download and print for profit.
A lot of people on this forum put some outstandingly good photo’s on, and at a very high quality. You and I benefit from this by seeing their work in its magnificence, but others will down it and sell. That’s life on the net I’m afraid.
Yes, fact. Twas on the TV, there was a programme about the Miles Company and it’s inventions / interests.
The main invention there was the bullet shaped jet with a detachable cockpit. “Handed over” to the Americans (Read “stolen” on behalf of the war effort) and a few years later the X-1 (Chuck Yaeger’s) rolled out of the Bell factory. Looking remarkably like the Miles designs and concepts.
Forget casting, as mentioned above…..more problems than it’s worth.
A hand forging is a good way forward, at least you will get some of the grainflow going in the right directions.
If you have them hogged out from solid billet, you may want a stress engineer to do some calculations for you, as the dimensions may need beefing up a bit to take account of the grain being wrong. They will be slightly heavier but I don’t suppose that matters to you.
And, somebody somewhere must already be making this stuff.
Send me the part numbers and I will ask my local Spitfire builder (No joke)
I thoroughly enjoyed the program, found it very humbling to hear the thoughts of George Johnsonn.
I did fill with pride when he pushed the pylon that claimed one of his Sqn’s aircraft, saying “You bitch!” as he did so.
I was very happy with the way it was made, telling the story from his point of view in his words, without someone constantly asking interview like questions.
I was also humbled by the way he changed through the program after visiting the dams and meeting the German survivors and the people who maintained the memorial at the crash site. They greeted each other like long lost friends or loved ones, not like the enemies they were some 65 years ago.
Well done Channel 5, more programs like this please!
Yes, it was a superb programme. And George clearly still has a useful mind for his age.
Your comment on the fact that they greeted each other as if old friends is probably because the only hatred was for the SS and the Nazi regime. Neither side actually hated each other but just “Did the job”. Today’s war has a deep rooted detestation for each others cultures and beliefs. In 60 years time we will not be welcoming the Taliban with open arms.
As the intellect of a BB fan is probably sporting an IQ of about 9, their mind should be susceptible to some subliminal advertising messages. Like “DON’T BREED, YOU ARE A DANGER TO THE GENE POOL”.
Just an opinion, but it’s right.

That Merlin needs saving.
It needs dumping in a vat of diesel oil for 6 months and then set about for a restoration.
It will be left to rot, and within two years that aerodrome will be a Barratts/similar housing estate.
Very possible, not everyone is interested in the history of type of aircraft they end up flying, or care.
Sounds strange to us enthusiasts, but I have met military aircrew that just arn’t that interested.
Quite so.
Once they get type certified, some don’t care two hoots about the antics of other pilots. It’s a tool of the job. It would be like a car mechanic knowing all about the 5/8 whitworth spanner that tightened the last bolt on Enola Gay. “What do you mean you don’t know, you are using a 5/8W right there!!” And it’s a Snap-on too!
This has to be seen (ok, read…) to be believed.

That guy? He’s about to be the richest man on the planet. Who says genetic alteration is a bad thing now? If this is for real, this is simply awe-inspiring. There are questions to be answered (how long does it take, for one) and certainly issues to be resolved (making it economically sound and distributable), but this is just nuts. Bacteria that poops oil. And it does it by eating waste. Imagine turning your lawn clippings into a tank of gas.
He will be rich. Because the Oil companies will buy the patent for millions (Off he goes to the Sunset) and the oil companies will never release that patent.
It happened to the ever-lasting battery in the 1940’s (50’s maybe) and will happen to anything else that threatens the mighty industries.
Which is bad for us all.

Theoretically, yes…..but in practice a negligible improvement.
My point was, don’t take for granted what the trip-computer in your car tells you…..mine just lies!
It tells you the truth based on 10 second snapshots.
One hit of the gas to get round an annoying truck or Volvo and you can undo miles of 50mph conservation. But it is best to use the MoT qualified/certified milometer.
In a previous job, I had a 60 minute jouney to work, 95% of that journey was on the M/way. So, with that sort of boredom daily, I experimented. At 56ish mph the journey took 75 mins, but my mpg was in the low 50’s per gal. (It was a Mark 3 Golf Ryder 1600).
At 70 it took the hour, and MPG was 42.
At 80/90 (It was before cameras on the M62/M57) it took 52 mins but the MPG was down at 20 something. Pathetic, just proves that to save 8 minutes (Big deal!!!!) I used twice the fuel, drove in twice the danger and was on the look-out for Police instead of looking out for problems.
Luckily now, I walk to work, 500 yards.
As for the MPG decreasing because the tank is full, this must be true, cannot dispute science.
Personally, I fill up, run to the red light (40 miles from empty) and fill again. But a tankful now lasts me 2 months, and my MPG is pathetic because it’s all on short runs.
