Such an idea would only work on the brighter kids, with intelligent parents. These kids already know right from wrong and the danger of guns/knives etc.

So, a youth is caught with a firearm, the police and other authorities decide that he needs to join a programme to learn how to handle it.
The delinquent scum that patrol the streets would see it as training, in much the same way as they use youth Jail as a Gladiator School.

Bad idea in modern UK.

Whether you like Old Shape’s style or not he has a point here, and a valid one. Where I live it can be said that many members of the youth of one Religion have gone ‘feral.’ This is purely because their elders, who permit and promote the subjugation of women, are impotent when their own male offspring commit an offence. Immediately the race card is played. My area is a no go area at night. Has been for years. The Police are not to be seen anywhere in the area during the hours of darkness. During the day they usually patrol, on the odd occasion they do, in pairs of cars.

As a white Briton living in the house in which my Father was born some 80 years ago, I am now the minority, a minority which is ignored and discarded by the Police and the Local Authority. It is really comforting as you turn into the bottom of my street to see a sign saying ‘All whites must die.’ To actually be stopped by Asian youths and told you can’t drive into a certain street. Who knows, maybe things are getting to the point where some elements of Sharia Law might even be welcome were it to be applied equally across all Religions and races. In the meantime, we sit in the middle of a drug and crime war, innocent victims stuck between Muslim youths who do drug deals just round the corner of the Mosque before going to Prayer and Polish immigrants, devout Catholics who rob you blind before going to confession knowing they will receive absolution for any crime.

It’s lovely here, honest.

I spent 3 years in an area of Preston like that.
However, the 1st 2 years was superb. I was one of 4 white families on a street of 100 houses. It was actually very VERY safe, the strict family rules of the Asians, perhaps upheld by the elders I mentioned earlier meant that it was actually a pleasure to be spoken to with polite regard. Never any trouble, never any loud music etc. In fact it was me rolling home at 2am and falling into the door!
Often, next door would pop round with what I can only describe as a culdron of curry for us. “Made too much”. We offered to reciprocate and were told absolutey not necessary, so we bought their kids stuff instead.

Then something changed. The Asian youth (And I speak of males of course) suddenly began taking control of the drug/crime zones. The Afro Caribs. had been running those until that point. Gang fights, racial riots (Black versus Asian) and the Asians seem to now control it.
I moved out, not because of the situation (But it assisted) but because I moved work.

@ Old Shape: In medivial times there was the institution of the ghetto. Might be worth considering. Like the Shanghai International Settlement.

Many parts of the UK already have that sort of thing. Romantically known as the Jewish quarter, Irish quarter, Latin etc. Certain other qtrs have their own elders councils etc. and see themselves above UK law, because our laws are based upon 10 tablets dragged off a mountain.
Parts of inner cities are now given up to imigrant populations, and certain feral elements of the cultures make it a no go area after dark.
Apart from the last point, the collections of like cultured people is not necessarily a bad thing. The brits do it when abroad, the Ex pats tend to live in the same area and so on.
So long as the rules or “Lores” of a minority culture don’t actually affect the majority lifestyle then harmony can exist. And here lies the problem, we assume that such customs will end up changing our laws. Mission creep may allow one or two of them in, but again, how does it affect us.
Prime example…..the crash helmet saga from years ago. For a short spell, turban wearers were allowed to NOT wear a crash helmet (I’m not sure if this allowable is still there??) because removing the turban (Apart from any religious reason) takes about 3 hours.
The D. Mail was up in arms, one rule for them etc. But exactly HOW did that alowance change the life of the non turban wearer?

A secluded part of the Italian lakes.
No traffic.
No mobile phones or blackberry.
No aircraft (Too much like work)
Great scenery
Great food
Great people
No French.

If that is offensive, then I’m the next president of the USA. Which actually would be offensive, mainly because I can read and write, don’t take bribes, have scruples and morals, have earned my money etc.

Country rat vs City rat. Both the same. Rats keep themselves incredibly clean. We hate them because of the black death, which was a flea that lived on the rat.
But, to humans they are a pest. Once in the house they will be attacted to the oily smell of plastic wiring. And the damage is always in a place you cannot reach without a full strip down!
Your fella is 100% certainly using the shed as a launch pad for easy food. Stop feeding, or move the bird feeder.
He (She?) is probably not nesting under the shed, or you would have seen more than one.
Animal lover or not, if it’s a pest then get rid of it. Until last year I lived in deep countryside (Nearest house was 1 mile, then 4 miles to the next) and I was surrounded by farmland. The rabbits got out of hand in 2005, so one of the farmers “Upwind” organised the mixy release. All rabbits gone in a fortnight. Which left the buzzards with a few days feasting then they had to hunt for real.
I had squirrel problems, grey ones…which are only rats with a good PR. They got in the loftspace.
I caught them in a humane trap and released them over the river and 5 miles away. Had I known at the time that you were allowed to kill them I would have borrowed a 0.22 air rifle, no quarms about that.
There was also a mouse problem in the same loft….which I created myself by having the bird feeder too close to the house. I moved feeder, but the mice were established. I got about 6 in the snap traps, a few more by poison.
The damage done by them was significant.
Animals are great, until they are a pest. Then we must move them on or ensure that our health & safety is not compromised.
