    Riiight..

    Tu-22M3 – no parallel
    SS-N-12/19 – no parallels
    SS-N-22/26 – no parallels
    Kirov Battlecruiser – no parallels
    S-300/400 – no parallels
Oscar II Class sub – no parallels
    SS-18 ICBM – no parallels

And yeah, the F-117 has no parallels, yet one got shot down by people who has an SA-3! Pretty terrible if you ask me.

And the Aegis, grand and all, seems to be great for shooting down civilian airliners – or making Standards miss their targets. . . but hey – maybe those were flukes. . .

    there’s probably more…

I can also guarantee you, that in 15 years the Russian armed forces will be expanding not only in numbers, but more into quality weaponry, more than enough to deter anyone both conventionally and in terms of nuclear weapons also. But the more worrisome prospect for any die hard US or British patriot – will be China. With over 1.6 billion people and an economy growing as fast as it is, I’d be far more worried about what the Chinese will do in the next 20 – 30 years.

….and the reason the McD f4 was designed was because?
The propaganda from US and UK upon it’s own people was as bad as the Soviets on the west (And internally of course).
We know all western politicians are corrupt, and they told us what to believe. Think about that.
Macarthyism left a deep scar in the culture of the US, it still exists today.
The west does not start wars or build an arsenal for no reason, we justify our budgets on a threat or future threat. We do not design a new platform just because the air force needs a new toy.
Russia did something, west overmatched it.
Rather than try to overmatch that, Russia went in another direction, our lads hit the drawing board again.
Our modern military A/c are probably far in access of the threats that exist. On both sides of the Iron Curtain.
A few dozen 8 engined bomb trucks laden with smarts wipes out the comms, radar, HQ and airfields on night 1.
Night 2 enforces it, because they moved some stuff.
Night 3, the enemy cannot get anything in the air, but we further raze their assets.
Leaving a relatively clear path for the armour to enter. Support to the armour from some Hogs and Apache. Long range support from less valuable platforms like our Tonkas.
So the F-22, F-35, Typhoon etc. are for what? All fantastic, unbelievable products representing massive leaps in technology. But what exactly are thay now going to fight now that the Cold War is over?
Sure they can be used, but not for what they were designed for.
BTW, I wish the west did indeed build up an arsenal (a) we all need the jobs (b) The spin-offs from military research enhance the consumer product range after a few years so we all benefit. (c) There are a few countries which should have their military extinguished rather quickly…but we have to wait until we are attacked or positively threatened, which is a yawn.

Yeah, right. Any sane person would know that Argentina would never take on a nuclear power. China could try to take Taiwan, thinking that the US wouldn’t want to go to war with China, especially if we seemed to be busy somewhere else. And who knows what trouble some nut in North Korea might stir up. Wars are very often the result of miscalculation. Don’t assume the other side won’t do something stupid.

The idiot in N. Korea wants S. Korea.
In some previous signed documents, the US is “Duty bound” to defend S. Korea.
    Bang, poof, winter.

Oh yes he was. Commons and Peers, as politicians, may very well be untrustworthy, crooked, self-regarding verminous pismires but they’re still civilians. :p

If they are mere civilians, I am anointed by God.
I retire now, with my word count increased by one. Pismire. Ant Pee. Never seen it spelt before, but when I’ve heard it I assumed it was spelt something like myre…..which it’s root is.
I’ll work it into a memo tomorrow 🙂

    ……now where’s that No2 uniform…..

That is your perception, not objective fact. Show me where I accused you of racism, please.

Apart from a large number of individual murders, both military and civilian, Irish terrorists blew up private homes, crowded pubs, gas storage depots close to towns, Remembrance Day services, busy shopping centres and business districts. You do seem to have a rather strange concept of “conventional military operations”, if you don’t mind me saying so. By the way, Northern Ireland was still part of the UK the last time I checked. :p

Were the victims of these atrocities, in your opinion, any less dead and the survivors any less traumatised, than those in the awful tube and bus bombings in London or the attacks on the WTC and the Pentagon?

If so, why? If not, then why do you persist in claiming that there is a difference?

No urban terrorism is legitimate. The various excuses and rationales expounded for such actions are, therefore, irrelevant.

Surely you do not believe that there are legitimate forms of urban terrorism? That there are circumstances in which it is acceptable or justified to kill and maim innocent civilians going about their daily business?

I cannot believe that this could be the case!

Guido Fawkes. He wasn’t after civvies.

Your post was clearly intended to insinuate that I held racist beliefs.

Irish terrorist at least attempted a veneer of military operations in the conventional (I regard Guerilla attacks as conventional) sense. The UK’s home based terrorists do not do this.

Religion here is vitally important, it is the foundation of the belief structure that legitimises and inspires Islamic terrorism.

The Irish problem started with Religion, ended up as kill a brit for sport.
Replace Irish with Iraqi and Brit for yank.

On topic. An ex flyer up above mentioned they are not allowed in the pub in uniform. Is this related to the fact that there could be a perception that you have one too many and then go and look after safety critical kit?
This all started with the British Rail incident back in 1980 (ish) I think, where a Train driver had had a beer at lunch, then had an accident. IIRC he had only one beer, but Mr Public saw him in the pub and all PR hell was let loose.

Do not lecture me about terrorism, you seem to have a habit of patronising people you think are American. 😡

The IRA had a vague sense of western Military honor. The UK’s domestic Islamic terrorists do not and despise there fellow Britons (servicemen or otherwise) for not being Muslims.

Surely this contradicts your support to get the team back out there in uniform?
Our enemies will gain great kudos for kidnapping or killing an officer.
Also don’t forget that this is a country where teens telephone 999 just to get the fire engine out so they can stone it. Where a dad is murdered whilst trying to retrieve a football from next doors garden. Due to looney lefts and a general cowadice, anything military is seen as negative, baby killers etc.

Whilst all of us on this forum support our military in every which way possible, there is no need to put them in danger from the idiots which are allowed to exist here with impunity. That includes the present enemies, the feral chav thick scum which roam the streets and the enemies we make in 2008.

As for National Service, unfortunately the Forces no longer need cannon fodder, intellect is required these days at the foot soldier level. The ferals as mentioned are too thick for the lowest possible task in any modern force.

Despite your strange claim, there is still no shortage of weaponary on this globe.

    Variety, perhaps enough.
    Quantity, many shortages.

Yeah……….then ‘you’ collapsed and disappeared into the pages of history.

History moves on, not always for the better. I’m not supporting the Soviets in any way, just I don’t support US/UK anti-Soviet propaganda either. As such “I” did not collapse. The collapse of the SU was a very bad thing for Western Defence industry, which also collapsed with the Berlin Wall. 250,000 jobs lost across Europe, but most importantly the infrastructure behind those jobs, the intellect of 50 years of science and ingenuity. Gone.
So don’t put me down as a commy, why….I’d launch the nuke on anybody anti western (Not that the SU was ever actually “anti” west….unlike the present problems)
The topic is still valid, Soviet Air power “Was” superb, and now “probably” isn’t…in comparison to US/UK.

That and other crappy pinko stuff like infrastucture, schools and hospitals…

Incorrect. When our defence spending was at it’s highest, we had the best schools/hospitals/NHS/infrastructure in parallel.
The countries Balance of Payments was healthy and we paid less tax!
Those in genuine need of a Social Service were also catered for.

From the 70’s till 95 NATO had NO advantages, better look at the data’s again.

    Correct.
Over here, we are corrupted by Western Propaganda which of course always states how bad the other guy is and how good the Western stuff is.
It is only since the Berlin Wall came down – and ruined the whole Defence industry – that the West has actually gained any significant lead against the Soviets.
If the wall hadn’t come down and Russia had continued with it’s old defence policy, it would be ahead still.
Some of the greatest scientists on the planet were involved in the Soviet Defence work, do you think they made products that would not do the job?
It was the west that was always chasing to get a product that would overmatch the latest Soviet threat. Russia kept making stuff, the West made something to beat it. Never the other way round.
1st Satellite, 1st man in space (Met him as he toured the factory I used to work at), 1st spacewalk. It was only at this point that JFK decided to pump Gazzillions of dollars into the US space race that this possible threat was overmatched.
I wish it was still like that, because our defence spending and our defence force would actually be superb, all the research and employment would return.
As it is, we cannot justify more than a few air and a few less sea platforms and as soon as we want to replace a Submarine, the pinko’s are actually allowed to have a say. They’d sooner spend the money on a new town twinning campaign.

    Lovely looking jet the IL96.

As a big 4 jetter goes, my list (For looks alone):-
    707
    Coronado
Dc8 (But not the 64 series which looked altogether too skinny)
    IL 96
    A340.

If the list could accept a 4 podder, the B-52 would be top.
