That is stunningly insane, it looks more like an ordinary field than a grass runway! I love the way he pulls the nose up so far to slow down. It must have been quite an experience to even see that landing, never mind be on the actual aircraft!

    Paul

Not sure he meant to pull the nose up that far!!??
See all the grass/dirt blast vertical from the reverse thruster doors too LoL.

No, only 4. Same as the B-1B.
B-52s got rid of the tail gunner (and guns) years ago.

    How many years ago?
I saw some leaving for the last Iraq skirmish and they still had the rotary CWIS gun sticking out the back.

I’m not too sure! – I heard she was to be scrapped, but maybe a new wing and engine bay and she would fly again?

From the head on shots it looks like there is no other damage apart from a wrecked nacelle and power unit. (The aeroplanes not the Grounds!)
Presumebaly the pilot slammed on the anchors when he heard the racket of the fan hitting the GPU. The force has broken the Engine mounts but it looks like the spar behind them is sound.
    She’ll be skybound again.

And yes, commercial pressure to get their slot is a main cause of accidents such as this.

What was the engine layout of the “Y”. Twin engine single intake?

One really could get the impression that MoD-by-Keypub-Forum would yield better results than Whitehall.

Could the IAI G550 AISIS work as fast-track replacement?

    No impression!
I’ve worked with the MoD for far too many years. It is staffed by seconded erks that would rather be swinging on a spanner than deskbound, office workers that are too meek to make it in the business world and run to the protective womb of the Civil Service, Officer level decision makers (On secondment or Civvies) that spend their two year posting by (a) 6 months unravelling the previous incumbants work (b) 12 months starting it all afresh…because they are paid to give a fresh viewpoint and (c) their final 6 months trying to engineer/wangle a better posting.

The ownership of decisions that are made (*) is nil. “I’ll be long gone” or, “The next Government can worry about that”.
    These are quotes, not anecdotes.
I wish I could refuse to pay tax sometimes.

    * A decision comes round like Haley’s comet. I can show you 14 months of meeting minutes with not a single decision made. Sorry, I lie. Date and time of next meeting was always sorted.
And yes, the meetings were indeed all on the same topic.

I’m using the PC version of Firefox and I’m not having this problem, if that helps at all.

Seems OK on the Linux version, too.

Hmm, but why is it OK on my other 11 forums?

I won’t be popular by making this comment but can I ask Darren why he needs to virtually obliterate his images by watermarking and self promotion? Your air to air photography is outstanding, but is nonetheless on a par with other photographers who appear not to feel the need to self promote to the extent that you do. It absolutely ruins the shots you choose to share and detracts terribly from the experience of viewing them.

If it is an attempt to discourage the right click save as merchants then I don’t see that it really has any purpose. If someone wants to purchase your images they will, however, by the same token, I don’t expect that those who would save your images would be inspired to buy one because of watermarking.

    Regards,

    kev35

Some right-click-save-as merchants will reproduce and sell as if their own work, or just sell on market stalls / car boot sales.
All those pictures, in a mount and even as small as a 6x 4 frame would sell for a few quid. At least watermarking will prevent most of them, or at least give them several hours work in photoshop.

What operating systems and web browsers do you use? I use Mac OS-X and when using Safari I have the same problems you mention. On the other hand, when I use Firefox it always remembers me.

    XP pro
    IE7

I used to get similar problems when I had a garbage ISP, because “Inactivity” meant they put your bandwidth to an “Actual” user. I thought this could be happening here, maybe not.
I belong to about 12 forums for various reasons, but this one is the only one which times out.

    This is spooky…..
I have a picture somewhere, almost exactly the same as your first Channel Islands one…at the old Manchester…when it was still truly called Ringway.
Taken in the days when you could walk along the top of the piers, that one being the International pier.
Nowthen if that’s a CL44 in the overnight bay it is highly likely to be one of Loftleider’s. If it’s a Britt, highly likely to be one of Monarch’s.
I suspect the picture was 1971 or 72?
I also suspect that on the South Side there, that’s a Heron. I can’t remember who’s, but it was a white livery with a blue cheat line.

    Thanks for the comments.:)
I thought you guys would like to see some of the aircraft we have in NZ.
The 3/4 scale Mustang is a Titan version with a few mods to make it look more authentic.
There is more at my website link below:

    http://capphotography.fotopic.net/

Only processing I do is with photoshop 2.
I bit of contrast and sharpness and thats about it really.
Always do a bit of centering where needed and removing the odd dust spot.
I am sure there are better ways of doing things but thats all I do.
I loathe spending heaps of time editing on the computer.

I would be interested as to what other photographers do.:)

I shoot in Jpeg fine. No raw on my camera, and tiff is a waste of time/memory/energy.
    I use the same routine…in CS2
    (1) Crop to suit desired output
    (2) Drag the pointers to each end of the histogram in “Levels”
    (3) Possibly adjust colour balance if the light was bad.
    (4) Add a new background layer, sharpen with “Other”/ High pass at around 3 pixels.
    (5) Change that layers blending mode to “soft light” and play with the opacity to remove any over sharpening…which at 3 pixels is rare.
Everything I do in PS is on it’s own layer, I never flatten the image unless it is for emailing or web use.

    Too good for mere words.

Very boring questions……what kit and what post processing software was used? (I know the skill is yours, but I like to know what the pro’s choose)

There are suggested ways that an A/c can become impossible to be found by radar. But the pilot would soon be a lump of burnt crispy fat and ash on the seat……..but we go forwards with pilotless platforms.
But it’s all blue-sky thinking, over the horizon and way off left. I’m sure one day it will be done, if the money is found and the desire is needed.

The only sensible “New” ways are jamming technology, not only perhaps trying to counteract a radar signal, but also preventing our reflection getting back to its reader.
