Lovely pictures.
I don’t get snow, (OK, we had 1/8th of an inch in Feb 2008) too much salty air on the Seaside sth coast.

so………the world is flat then
and……..the moon is made out of cream cheese………Leave the EU ?
OK then ………and watch every single international company leave the UK.
The world economy is global leave the EU and watch a depression turn into a one country depression.Do I like everything that happends in the EU, certainly not but to leave it would be Economic suicide.
As for keeping the pound, that really is little Englander again. It’s all about the Dollar, yen, euro etc the pound is meaningless.
We are a small nation with huge economic problems. We have very little manifacturing left and rely on the city to survive. We leave the EU and what is left of the City will be off to Franfurt faster than you can say sausage. Excatly how would we survive as a nation then.
Heads up all, we don’t have empire any more.
Whilst we are on the subject, lets join the 21st century and leave the 18th. Can we have a sensible voting system, a wriiten constitution, a bill of rights, AN ELECTED SECOND CHAMBER and a voted for president as Head of State. If we do these things and create a proper legal system we might just become a proper democraftic country.
Rant over, Happy Christmas and an excellent New Year to all. Especially those in the UK aviation industry which is just about dead and 2010 could kill it off once and for all.
I totally agree with all of that.
100% FOR the EU, despite it’s shortcomings.
One of the biggest mistakes all the Brit Politicians is that they think they can rule the EU without coming to the table.
We need to be up there, at all the decision making events and banging the table for the BRIT. standpoint.
We are years behind in the currency convergence because Lamont lost his bottle and ran away. As stated above, the Pound is meaningless, and it’s not even all that old compared to some of the currencies which have changed to the Euro. IIRC the Pound has its roots in France too!
Article 2, yes two of the ToR is the common currency. We don’t have a choice about the currency, only by leaving the EEC altogether. As stated above, lesson 1 in primary school economics is to NOT leave the EEC.

Ludicrous!
Do you seriously think that the UK alone can afford to spend $16,250 BILLION (yes, billion dollars) on defence when in 2009 the total world spend on defence was less than $1500 billion?
How will this be paid for? Almost every other measure you have suggested will reduce government income.
Between the ignorance and the apathy I’m beginning to think we have the government we deserve in this country! 😡
BUT JUST THINK OF THE WEAPONRY!!!!!
BTW, Croaking Door, you need to lighten up and get out more. If you can’t see the humour in a Sir Jeremy Clarkson type exaggeration then things may be getting a bit tense. If one is expected to post precise and exact figures on what is a general discussion internet forum, on a thread which can by default be full of lies (It’s Politics!) then “Jack would be a dull boy”.
No offense my friend, but sheesh. The country has a joke Government policed by a joke system. We should all join in, because the only way to change that lot is a coup, and we’re British, we don’t do that. (Unless we are funding certain mercenaries to overthrow certain African states of course)

Its not as simple and as black and white as that. You would have to disect each every structure on the 787.
Yes people are looking at Boeing but they are not waiting around to see if it fails or not before they start.
What the observers do no one cares about.
when the first comercial jets failed due to the wrong aluminium the aerospace industry did not give up on aluminium and stay with wood and cloth!
Similarly with composites.
Except that in a few dozen months the 787 will be lifting up to 300 Pax/crew. We (The industry) need a full size FLAC model building, and 15,000 hours + 10,000 landings (10% of them heavy) putting on it. Only after a full stripdown and inspection of that (And all corrective actions taken to hte designs) should we be putting people at risk. Tough poo if it puts 5 years more into the introduction of the technology.
And, the first commercial jets failed because of incorrect (But unknown) fastener assembly techniques allowing several cracks to propagate near a window, Metal fatigue was allowed to happen because the joints were able to move during the cyclic pressure changes. The grade of ally, similar to today’s 2024, had been used for years before on some of the prop. jobs.
Tonight I watched Surrogates (Brucie Willis), and Burn after Reading (Clooney, Pitt, Malkovich). Both good fillums.

(1) Petrol/Derv to 45p a litre, in order to drive the economy.
(1a) Road tax to be £120 for all vehicles up to 2 tonne, £400 after. Motorbikes will have to suffer the £120.
(2) VAT to 15% to make us just a tad liking to Yerp.
(3) Removal of the Social Benefits system to ALL immigrants (Unless they have contributed to the NI for 10 years or brought enough cash in) – Because we are a meal-ticket laughing stock.
(4) Increase defence spending 25,000% – We should be “The arsenal of democracy” – and the Defence industry spins-off dozens of other industries and inventions etc.
(5) Scrap the tax banding system, EVERYBODY pays 22% of all wage after the minimum stop-gap, perhaps add 9% for the NI contribution – admin costs plummet, we all know where we stand. It also encourages entreprenneurs to stay.
(6) Kill Brown – because it makes sense.
(7) To pay for the above we just simply put Businessmen in charge of the Ministry departments instead of complete and utter idiots. It will stop waste immediately, for instance Town Twinning. It has served nothing, benefited only those that have travelled. It’s as much use as a blokes nipple.
(8) Local Government / L. Authority waste (I once read) could pay for a new Hospital AND a Squadron of Typhoons every month.

I buy the Big I whenever I see it for sale, round my parts there isn’t too many homeless. I get it on trips to London or similar.
It has some great reports in it, and is mostly a better read than a newspaper.
