The industry needs the A400M to fly a full test programme. The industry has now put it’s balls in a vice and commited to CFRP airliners…..or airliner sized A/c. The A350, 787, C-series are going to be taking paying public and there are still a great many safety concerns about CFRP main structural items and wing covers. Sounds very calous but it’s better to gain knowledge from testing on a military platform first.
Embraer is staying with metal. Mitsubishi learned about CFRP manufacture on the 787…then designed a metal aeroplane.
Lightning strike is perhaps the biggest concern, nobody can guarantee that every single faster which breaches the tank is totally sealed from hot plasma flux, if lightning taps the outside. The mesh and/or lightning diversion system will not assist a direct hit on a bolt top that isn’t perfectly sealed inside.

A delamination of a CFRP item happens from the inside, it can only be found by X-ray or scanning. Visual inspection is worthless. So, where’s the crack after that heavy landing?

The fibers have a very high melting temperature, but the resin which binds them will turn liquid at about 220c. That’s gas mark 7, I can get that on my ciggy end. You’d better hope the fire extinguishers work on the engines, or the Front Spar will return to fibre tows, with unfortunate circumstances.

All was fine when the structure was metal and class 2 panels were CFRP, but with a false promise of 20% lighter and 30% more efficient, the airlines demanded plastic. Will they pay the true price of producing these parts? Only if the extra is passed on to the pax.
The next generation of Aero Engine (For both SA and TA) will give 25% cheaper operating costs anyway.

So yes, the A400 is a dog, but the industry needs it. And, I will always support something which protects UK and EU defence/aerospace jobs and skills.

With diminishing natural rescources and an ever increasing world population, it wont be the climate that kills us, it will be the anarchy and chaos as our poor descendants fight over whats left.

G20 countries are already limiting the amount of kids, because of a tax system which punishes the producers we can’t bally afford more kids!

I have never assumed or stated anywhere that the scumbags come from any particular class. Bin Liner for a start comes from an “Old money” Saudi family.

My statement was that I agree that a change of circs. is likely to change their mind. Marriage, education, money etc. I said they will eventually become civilised, have some money, have a Blue Ray and 50 inch TV, drink Coke and eat McCrap.
