I can’t speak for anyone else but if the hypothetical situation we’re discussing sadly happened, and if I thought there was a chance of saving something without it costing my life (I ain’t daft) I’d go for it. Rather try than do nothing and watch it turn to ashes in front of my eyes.

And all too often abused by scrotes who think it’s a good way of entertaining themselves, shining them at motorists, pilots etc. 😡
