Thanks for the clarification on armament. I’m more familiar with the Canadian marks, which retained the 6 50 calibre guns.
Strange. Looks like it has 4 guns, not the usual 6. Anyone able to shed any light on this?
This relates very much to a comment I made on the string about ML407 getting invasion markings.
I dare them to go out, late on the afternoon of June 5th, with a paint brush and two cans of paint, and slap on some stripes. Far more realistic. Then again, other than folks like us, everyone would complain that it looks sloppy and un-authentic. Of course it would be a great opportunity to educate people, if they wanted to be.
I think a little dirt would be a good thing, but as in building models, balance would be the key. Some models just get so over done in my opinion, and real warbirds could be the same thing.
Getting rid of glossy paint where it is not appropriate is certainly a good first step. Think BBMF AB910. Not weathered, but it looks great!

I dare them to get out a brush and a couple of cans of paint and slap it on just before sunset on June 5.
Then again, other than people like us, everyone would complain that it just looks sloppy and not authentic!
The pink will be missed, but I do love blue Spitfires.
A little belated in my comments, since it had not actually logged in for a while, just visited as a “tourist”
But I gotta say WOW AMAZING INCREDIBLE.
Those shots are fantastic. Excellent to see her in the air. I showed them to my father, who served on the HMCS Magnificent for a while. There were a few Seafires around then, though not of this Mark. He was certainly impressed too.
Any chance she’ll make it as far north as Genoseo one year. Ottawa isn’t that much further away you know!!
Charles
Wow is right. I have to say it was sure worth the wait for those of you in Region 2. Sounds like the extras will be fantastic. I’m jealous.
The only extra we got was the trailer.
One more reason to move to the UK?
Charles
Regarding the CAM Beaufighter, that’s along the lines of what I have heard too.
Seems to me that’s a long time to hold a grudge, and a piece of our heritage is crumbling because of it. That may be what happened, but I don’t think its an excuse for that airframe having been left outdoors for over 30 years in a climate like Ottawa’s. No matter how bad a condition it was in when they got it, its much worse now.
Charles
What about the Beaufighter at the Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa. That one has been talked about before.
I has been outdoors, with many parts missing and others hanging from it, for at least 30 years. Considering how few of these things there are remaining, its a disgrace. All the more a disgrace since this is a respected national museum, not a private collection.
A new hanger is being built which should finally provide an indoor home for the Beau, but please, it’s not that big an airplane. I really cannot think of any excuse for it not having been put under cover long ago.
If you search Airliners.net for Beaufighter you will quickly find a picture taken of her in 1980. And it doesn’t look any better today, 24 years later!!
Charles, cranky in Ottawa
I had never heard of the “cartwheel”. I wonder if it was even captured on film? That would be incredible to see.
Charles
Gosh Mark,
Did Snoopy and the Red Baron already end their Christmas truce!
Charles … also on the west side of the Atlantic, but with plenty of Scottish blood (Banffshire to be precise, beautiful area!)
With-holding comment – for now
I can completely understand the fears that the Hollywood script writers will re-spin history, leaving audiences to feel/believe that the US pilots were the cavalry that saved the day in 1940, so to speak. I fear that too.
We’ve all seen Hollywood scripts re-spin history in the past, and not just the history of other countries. They re-spin their own history too.
But I think it’s best to wait till we know more before jumping to conclusions. Maybe it won’t be so bad. Maybe it will give credit where credit it due. If so, we’ll all be in line to see it.
Maybe it will be crap. If so, some of us will still be in line to see it, while the rest of us will keep on watching “The Battle of Britain” and “Dark Blue World” to get our fix of 1940 flying scenes.
In the mean time, it’s true that some warbird operators will benefit from this, and however the story is told, that will be a tangible benefit to the whole warbird community.
Looking forward to knowing more about the movie,
Charles
Thanks for the suggestion sconner.
A Farnborough DVD would not have been my first choice, but at least I won’t be stuck with an expensive drink coaster!
Charles
Thanks RobAnt,
However, my problem is the other way around, since I am in Canada. I have an NTSC TV, but before daring to invest in a DVD from DD Video, I want to be confident that it will work.
My DVD player says it can convert PAL to NTSC. Is that all I need, since I don’t need to worry about region codes with their DVDs?
Has anyone in region 1, with an NTSC system, purchased a DVD from DD Video?
Charles
Thanks Daz,
I’ve actually seen one of those for sale around here. But I really wanted something in 1:48 or larger.
Ah, beggars can’t be choosers my mother always says. Might have the get out the putty and start modifying a IX.
