I’m sure somebody more helpful will leap in, I haven’t been there for years. I adore the place but circumstances etc…
ALL buses on Malta start from Valetta so wherever you want to go, you’re in the right place.
The RAF Memorial between Valetta and Floriana is very imposing and moving.
We hired a car and did 400 miles in a week, which is quite good going, considering the size of the island.

Fuel capacity in US gallons and centre spelled center.
From memory it’s very similar to, but longer than, the blurb in Putnam’s Aircraft of the RAF.

I thought they made a bad programme out of a potentially very good one.
As Lancman said, Ray Holmes was obviously overwhelmed but I won’t complain about the lack of preparation if he only agreed to go at the last minute.
John Suchet was an excellent newsreader but is a rubbish live “Rentagob”. I don’t like shouty women presenters anyway and I didn’t think, despite her professed interest, she had a clue what she was talking about.
I thought I heard them say the German dig was stopped due to the presence of oil and aviation fuel.
I did tape it, assuming I would want to keep it but I’ve already rewound the tape to go over it.

The Pegasus was originally called the Mercury V, but was “mechanically improved throughout”. It would seem unlikely that any parts were interchangeable.

We’ll be there on Saturday, but it probably is a bit previous to start plotting for a meet.

Aren’t there a few just down the road?

    That’s the easy bit. 🙂

I’ve seen mutterings several times over the years about some being pushed into a quarry, Manchesterish (?). Would they be the same bits?

That chap’s name’s been mentioned on here before but I can’t get any sense out of the search engine.

Prowling around what was left in hangar 1 at the end of Merlins over Malta, I found a Yank engineer replacing a grillion screws in the underside of Grumpy’s starboard wing. There appeared to be more access panels than wing.
He said it was 3 years out of ticket and he’d got a couple of days left to check it over.

I can’t speak from personal experience but you can get a train from Stansted to Cambridge, (probably change at Bishops Stortford) and there’s a scheduled bus service to Duxford.
    Following pasted from Duxford’s website:
Between Monday and Saturday the scheduled Stagecoach C7 service operates from Stop G at Emmanuel Street, Cambridge via Addenbrookes Hospital, departing at 20-minute intervals throughout the day until 18:00. The return times from IWM Duxford are at 15, 35 and 55 minutes past the hour.

There’s been one recently, even odder. A bloke was appearing at various events, signing books etc. as a famous (test?) pilot until somebody showed the genuine chap an article about it.

Strangely enough, the song was banned in the U.S. and on BBC – because of the word “bloody” which is considered undecent. So when you listened to a broadcast of it in the 60’s you would hear “… the -beep- Red Baron of Germany … “. In their second song on the Red Baron (see below) the singers knew better – the Baron is, of course, going to go “to hell” (another undecent word).

I didn’t know that, I only listened to Radio Caroline then.

    Great minds think alike, Steve.
I started with the Bolo and was quite taken aback when I found it was nothing like it!
