I haven’t taken a great deal of notice of it but it’s only a Rapide after a lot of pies. I suspect it’s all CGI.

If you do want to include V1 incidents, there was a major one in Sandringham Rd, Watford in July 1944.
It was mentioned a few times by my family years ago and I had a vague idea where it was but it’s only now after looking it up on Google maps that I realise it was only about 1/3 of a mile from where my paternal grandparents and my 16 year old dad lived. No wonder it was talked about…

Considering how close to London it is, and with two then three major aircraft factories, Hertfordshire seems to have got off relatively lightly, both with bomb damage and aircraft crashes.

Make that four aircraft factories – I forgot Aldenham.

Surveys depend on who they talk to.
I read an article a couple of days ago about a journalist who trotted off to Rotherham, I think that’s where his mum was from, to interview all the people who’d changed their minds since the referendum.
He couldn’t find anybody who had…

The one that struck me was “structural funding to areas hit by industrial decline” which translates as giving us back some of what was left of our own money after doling it out to everybody else.

Blackbushe appears to be an odd place to station an aircraft as an escape route being some distance out of London WSW-ish.
Northolt or somewhere N or NW seems more obvious to me.

A Lancaster seems unlikely but IIRC he did have a York at some stage.

    Edit: Need to type quicker!

Maybe, this issue from July 1992 ?:

It have the “BBMF Spotlight. Colours and crews for 1992” article.

    No, that’s not it. We’ve been through 1990, 1991 and 1992.

All I’ve found so far is a short article in the March 1990 Flypast briefly stating the BBMF maintenance updates for that season.

At the bottom it says a larger article on the work of the BBMF will appear in the annual Airshow 1990. Could that be the one?

I almost certainly haven’t got it as I generally don’t buy the airshow specials.

Last year… I have enough trouble with yesterday without thinking about anything earlier!

I have passed on your thanks and I’m reliably informed that “other years are available”.
We’ll have an initial glance at the covers and a more in depth look over the next couple of days.

Thanks entirely to a lot of work by my other half, she produced all 1991 Flypasts, in order, within a minute or so of my asking if she’d come across them.

Without actually reading them from cover to cover, I can’t see anything that would fit that description.
I would have thought it would warrant a mention on the cover but there’s nothing there or in the contents after a quick scan through them.

I think the Spitfire was a Rotol story, using timber blades from the outset?

Earlier Spitfires up to and including the BofB, had DH props converted on site from two-speed to constant speed.
I don’t know when they switched to Rotol.

Somewhere around here ends my entire knowledge of propellers.

Presumably, as drawings exist, DH made blades/props in Australia.
Shipping them half way round the world to the UK or Canada as a matter of course seems unlikely so I assume they were to fit an Australian-built aircraft.
That should narrow it down a fair bit.

Unless any or all of my assumptions are complete rubbish, of course…

Can anyone explain the principal difference/differences between a Typhoon and a Tempest and which differences lead to an estimate of the ‘better’ aircraft ?

    Probably over-simplified but…

The Typhoon wing was too thick for high performance.

Design thinner, more efficient, wing which reduces fuel capacity.
Extend fuselage to make room for extra fuel.
Major differences so change the name to Tempest.

    It worked.

IIRC, apart from destroying original material, the main reason the RAF Museum decided not to restore the Halifax was it would take 10 years of their entire budget and all their staff.
