It’s certainly a magnificent achievement and shows what can be done with determination and passion.
Not having seen it in the flesh, I don’t what Bruce is referring to to in particular regarding shape but the canopy looks a mile out to me.
After-market mod. Riley for Lycoming and Saunders for turbo-props IIRC.
IIRC, BAC wanted a Rolls-Royce engine for TSR.2 but were told they had to use the Olympus.
How does USAAF installation trials in June 1945 prove they were a joint design when the RAF had been dropping Tallboy operationally for a year by that date?
After much Googling, it appears Barnes Wallis patented the “bouncing bomb” on the 11th of August 1942.
Obviously an American design then…

I seem to remember reading somewhere that papers discovered after the war which showed that the germans were playing with Highball type bombs about the same time we were with the same purpose in mind – attacking capital ships

“After Operation Chastise, the Germans discovered an Upkeep bomb that had failed to explode lying in some woods and subsequently a 385 kg (850 pound) version of the bouncing bomb was also trialed by the Luftwaffe. Designed for use against British shipping, it was given the codename Kurt, and was built at the Luftwaffe Experimental Centre in Travemünde. However, they failed to understand the importance of backspin, and in trials, dropped by an Fw 190, it proved to be dangerous to the delivering planes as the bomb matched the speed at which it was dropped. Attempts to rectify this with booster rockets were ultimately a failure, and the project was discontinued in 1944.”

I must say it seems extremely unlikely to me.
The likelihood of Wallis’s research even being conveyed across the pond doesn’t appear probable, let alone design revisions coming back.
I may be talking complete gibberish here, which isn’t a particularly rare occurence, but IIRC the angled fins to give the rotation were a fundamental part of the original concept.
Likewise Upkeep. Wallis was thought of as a loony scientist with that idea. We were hardly likely to ask our allies to help turn it into something that worked.
Also, the shorter the description in the Haynes manual, the worse the job will be.
A full page of instructions, when you actually get around to it, will probably take 10 minutes.
If it just says “remove widget” – worry.
It will be held on by numerous nuts/bolts, all of different sizes, all rusty and all will be inaccessible, except one to lull you into thinking it’s going to be easy.
Skysport have a Beaufighter which I believe came from RAF Halton, I’ve no idea which mark.

IIRC, the tests were done as an experiment to see if, on principle, TA634 could be returned to an airworthy condition.
It was more of a general investigation for Mosquitos as a whole, rather than with the intention of actually doing something to that particular airframe.

The aircraft may well have been a dog but it was certainly underpowered which presumably didn’t help. IIRC, it had Taurus (Taurii?) and whatever the next one up was were suggested but they were already earmarked for something else, possibly the Beaufighter.
I still nominally use it, when I clear enough room to start R/C modelling again.
I’ve got about 6 sets but not as fancy as that.
Best I can do is a PDF of the ordinary PCM instructions if that’s any good.
