Personally I’d love it if we folded up all of our overseas tents and let people solve their own problems.

that’s the way things should be. 😉

Those don’t seem to have had much impact on air warfare. 😉

If one is stupid enough to live by an airbase who’s fault is that? No sympathies here. You have idiots in my neck of the woods who moved near the south end of the runway at Hill AFB and then complain about the noise. I can’t wait for the F-35s to move in. :diablo:

sure in America, but maybe not in other parts of the world where US bases were built with out the consent of the people. Since they’re replacing a number of Marine aircraft, there’s a high possibility that they will be based on non-US territory

….and the news has it that a Russian Warship Neustrashimy is hurrying there from the Atlantic. What, nothing seaworthy closer than that? Haven’t updated their maps with the Suez Canal? Inquiring minds want to know. Or is this just a result of the major cutbacks in the Russian blue water navy?

Piracy in the area has really been out of control for years, and it takes something like this to get international attention. Shows just how well the UN works:eek:

care to explain the relation between the UN and piracy in that area?

I find the term taikonauts to be cheesy

on a side note, the PRC doesn’t really use that term. Its non PRC media that uses it.

Nah, I bet that the leading T-72 classically turned its turret round after negociating the slope in order to get its fire range clear, thus offering an unprotected target (rear part of the turret) to a striker positioned roughly 90 deg. to the road either side (upslope or down in the terrain). The “clean” blow up indicates an ATGM. A RPG would have rampaged the rear equip boxes much more and left much more pyroforic marks.

perhaps the Georgians should opt for a design where ammo is stored in the turret bustle. I think the Ukranians had some T-72 modifications that did just that.

    – Russian TV released some new pictures of dead Georgian T-72s (please the textbook “ambush” location):

I assume these are not “monkey model” T-72s yes?
most of the destroyed Georgian tanks seem to show turrets that have been knocked right off the chassis.

ah so they did repaint it! it used to have a darker grey for the body and a ligher grey for the radome. It now looks more similar to the scheme used on the MiG-29. any reason for the change?

Something I’m a bit confused about here is if this is about South Ossetia why are the Russians putting warships off Poti and hitting targets in Abkhazia (sp.).

Are these two, seemingly disparate, issues related or are the Russians taking one opportunity to deal with both issues at the same time?.

perhaps that and that Abkhazia also declared war on Georgia just now.

with a population of just 70,000, I wonder how S.Ossetia will find the manpower if they had to do it alone w/o Russian support.

just curious, what percentage of Greek military spending goes into the Navy as compared to the AF and Army?

did they repaint the Su-30MKI’s? The radome looks darker than usual.
with Snecma being involved in the LCA engine, does this mean Rafale may be more likely to win the MMRCA?

How true. If Chinese a/c even came close to US coastal waters (Not Alaska, but east cost or west cost of US), hell would break loose.

You will see the US gov. hypocrites sceaming for blood. Talk of double standards.

Soviet submarines were constantly around the coasts of Hawaii (a US state) during the cold war.

i wonder if anyone will attempt to climb up to the pedestal and attempt to do accurate measurements on that thing since last I’ve seen, people were still in disagreement over its size.
