We ought to ask SOC his professional opinion. As Distiller mentioned, perhaps the US was set up to fail, to hasten the deliveries of F-22s and F-35s, and now, are trying to help the F-15 drivers save some face with this altest report.

And the IAF lifted up its quilt and showed the US everything it has, right? 😉

Of course not, but do you think that India’s simulated AWACS is as good as the US’s? And how well would they do if gloves came off in a 1:1 fight?

I don’t believe that the pictures themselves prove that US F-15s necessarily fired AMRAAMs during the exercise. Cope India lasted 12-13 days; on which of those days were the main exercise, and on which day was that picture taken?

Anybody have serial numbers for the F-15s involved in the exercise?

If you ask me, the article itself is very fishy, and reads strangely. However, I also doubt that the US was beaten badly at the exercise, and probably fought with a handicap.

the IAF Mig-29s do not have air to ground capability…. its an “air superoirity” platform……

i still dont get it…. why would the Mig-21 bison and the su-30s “escort” the MiG-29 ???? 😀

THE MIG-21S WERE FOR ESCORTING THE FLOGGERS! Now can we get off this subject and back to the original topic?

    Mig-21 bisons and Su-30s for escorting an “air-superiority” fighter ??? 😀

    “….escorting the MiG-29 !” 😀 😀

Stop flogging a dead horse. I already wrote that the Mig-21s were to escort the Floggers. Now, my original point to flex was, how can there be many strikers out of a 12 plane force?

    5 Mig-29s
    At least 1 Su-30
    At least 1 Mig-21
And, already, more than half of the planes are fighters.

Infinity, F-15C only have one MFD, no matter which version it is (unlike F-15E). Elmendorf Eagles are of F-15C Block 40-MC Eagle 85 standard, built around 1985, e.g. one of the latest batches built for USAF (the production ended Nov 1989). Just the fact that they were all completely wired for AIM-9X and JHMCS (eventually even upgraded with APG-63(V)2) shows that those are of the latest USAF standard.

Elmendorf used to be the first line of defense against upcoming Svoiet bombers, it is highly unlikely that they would have gotten anything else than the state-of-art aircraft.

As with the USAF not being allowed to use BVR, look at the pic above..

I was under the impression that only half of the Elmendorf Eagles were upgraded to the V2 standard. A simple way for determining what’s going on; do we know which Eagles (by serial number) were upgraded? And do we know which Eagles (by serial number) were participants in the Cope India Ex?

    Mig-21s escorting Su-30s and Mig-29s? 😀 😀 😮 😮

I guess the IAF will use the Mig-21 as escorts for the Su-30s because the Flankers are clearly outclassed by a certain other neighborhood single-engined aircraft. I guess, the Su-30 needs the Mig-21s’ protection. 😀

I didn’t finish my sentence; Mig-21s for escorting the Floggers.

Now, is there another source for whether the US used AMRAAMS or not? I don’t find the picture very convincing; it could’ve just been a PR shot of the F-15 and Su-30 flying together.

On the other hand, it could also be the US community trying to cover up for their beatdown.

    My points:

    – USAF aircraft were outnumbered 3:1 if counting in total, but many of the aircraft were MiG-27s or Mirage 2000 in the strike role, which were carrying no A-A ordnance and USAF pilot must have known it. Therefore the number 3:1 in aerial combat is a misinformation

From the article, it seems the 4 F-15s flew against 12 IAF planes. Now, 5 of those planes were Mig-29s, throw in a few Su-30s, and Mig-21s for escort. I don’t see how ‘many’ of the aircraft were strikers.

    – The *fact* taht USAF had no active missiles to defend themselves is a lie.. F-15s used AIM-120 AMRAAMs and the pics taken during Cope India published around the whole globe prove it. They also used AIM-9X and JHMCS. This is, again, proven by pics on http://www.af.mil which clearly show the AIM-9X mounted on the racks.

How do you know the US used AMRAAMs?

I don’t know if that image proves that the F-15s involved in the actual dogfight were carrying AMRAAMs. It only proves that that F-15 flying next to the Su-30 is equipped with AMRAAMs; was that taken during the engagement?
