    Bruce,

I agree with you that the work on the Corsair and the Wildcat is groundbreaking and excellent. However it is predominantly paint. Regarding their plans for the Barracuda I think it is more useful to look at the list of structural restorations that I can think of that have been completed in-house by the FAA Museum in the period that I have been visiting there, since the late-1970s. It consists of the following:

I’ve never seen so many Vulcan and Lancaster caps and T-shirts all in the same place as I did today. “Roll up, roll up, all aboard the bandwagon!”

Surely their big mistake was not to consult the members of this forum. It seems obvious from the comments above that every member here is an expert in marine salvage.

Never mind, in another two months it will all be over forever. All the Vulcan-worshipers can then go back to their football, their copies of The Sun and their cans of extra-strength lager, and put their union jacks away away in the cupboard.

Last year’s event had a much better WWI programme booked and didn’t come close to selling out, so your comment would seem to be way off the mark Sopwith.7f1

They were out in force at Duxford last weekend, freeloading by parking in the IWM car park but staying outside the chain link fence, with their Union Jack baseball hats and their little flags on sticks. Bless them!

Sadly it sounds as if the recovery was badly botched and they managed to tear the wing off in the process. What a shame. 🙁

    …CAF returned to Coventry.

Well, part of it did. They seem to have left rather a lot behind…

I’d be surprised it it was, deep discounting is done in the book trade on high-volume mass-market titles, not high-price specialist publications.

All credit to the organisers in guaranteeing entry to SVAS members, unlike the fiasco of Friends of Duxford being denied entrance to last September’s shambolic Duxford event.

You neglected to mention the little matter of the price, £150 a copy for the cheapest edition!

You should be okay any time. I often roll up at one o’clock and drive straight in during Legends weekend.

I think it will have the opposite effect, it will bring people through the gate who might not otherwise visit OW, and what they see there may encourage them to return. It has also had the effect of selling out a show that otherwise would probably only have been half full. It was strongly advised on The Collection’s website and social media that tickets should be purchased in advance as it would sell out before the weekend. Most of the true ‘Shuttleworth regulars’ will be SVAS members, and can still gain admission on the day.

TempestNut. In the high-end auction business it is all about creating ‘the buzz’ in the saleroom. Not easy to do that when your star item is sixty miles away.
