Ok, you all make some good points about how the market is already flooded with F-16s and upgrades for the F-5/MiG-21 which are almost literally in service amongst every third world country.
But lets just say that a nation (just as an example take Argentina) that is literally in need of a modern fighter (with a small exception to the Fightinghawk). Wouldn’t Argentina need to spend millions on updating its shelters, maintenance equipment and various support facilities in order to operate an F-16C/D
Would France or the US finance these modernisations if the F-16 or M2k were purchased?

Thought the last Canberras were retired already?

When I say serving combat aircraft, I mean anything that flies with wings or rotors that either shoots or gets shot at :diablo:

Doesn’t Cuba still use the MiG-15UTI for basic training?

If all this is true, I’m not saying it’s not but if it is, then why haven’t more stealth aircraft been shot down?

Speaking of weapons, wasn’t the Su-24 equipped with a Gsh-30 cannon armament or am I thinking of gun pods? Did the F-111 have any inbuilt cannon? Has the F-111 been armed with Sidewinders or the Su-24 been armed with Archers for self-defense?

Nice shot Holty, take that yourself? The closest I get to seeing military aircraft is on my dvd player, the main problem of being in the middle of a big city!
Thanks for all your welcomes guys, look forward to talking to you all 🙂

Think these are nothing more than rumours, same kinda rumors that circulated about the IRIAF F-14s radars shutting down if they locked on to American aircraft or how Egyptian F-16s electronics would shut down if they were within such and such a distance of Israel…pure fiction 🙂

I’m not a technical person myself, give me a pic of a nice plane with a nice camo scheme and I’m content…ok I’m not that bad I do know what an external fuel tank is and what BVR stands for etc. etc. etc. 😉

I’d say the Su-24 was on par with the Vietnam era F-111, same kinda role and same kinda ordinance being delivered. The Su-24 must have been slightly ahead in terms of capability when it first came into service though given that the USSR tended to copy and improve on American designs or ideas. But they were closely matched. I heard that Russian pilots in Afghanistan had more convidence in their aircrafts terrain following capability than American pilots in Vietnam who lent more toward hands on flying. Also, wasn’t the Su-24 more of a close support aircraft than the F-111? I mean didn’t the F-111 mainly carry PGM’s and the Su-24 mainly carry rocket pod’s and free fall bombs?

Living in the lovely city of Birmingham right now, been here since the age of ten so I’m currently looking for a change of scene! Don’t get me wrong Birmingham is a nice place to live, but how many times can you go to the same city centre in a seveenteen year life span and still be enthusiastic about window shopping? Oh and the new Radison Hotel, think that’s how it’s spelt, is lovely gives the city a great image…except when you book a room on the eight floor for your girlfriends birthday and look out the window at chip shops and late night street brawls…not exactly a great image for Britains second city 🙂 . So hows life on the Key Publishing forum, is it all I’m hoping for and more?
