That’s what happens if plans for a recovery take too long. Claiming a wreck for recovery is one thing but the actual recovery itself is more important and that’s often where things start to slow down.
Get that York out of there, FAST!!!!

Nope but 40 ops is a fine score.
Anyone have pics of the cockpit of PN323 during the early Skyfame years?

Haven’t forgotten it John,
I knew you would remind us.:)

Paul,
The Halifax was designed from the outset with air cooled radial engines, not the Merlin, That’s why the Merlin engine installation looks to be like an afterthought and caused so much drag.
There was one experimental Halifax with underslung nacelles and using higher powered Merlins which gave much better performance but the Halifax III with Hercules engines was considered to be a better option.
So the Air Ministry was partly to blame for the dissapointing performance of the early Merlin engined Halifaxes by forcing HP to use engines the airframe wasn’t designed for.

FN7? That would double the known number of surviving turrets of this type then. Is it the egg shaped dome?
Any pics, mind you if it’s only the cupola then it’s not exactly a turret but interesting nevertheless.

When visiting the Science Museum during New Years recentely I couldn’t help thinking that the S6B looked a bit tired, of course it’s an original aircraft but with various bits and panels missing it looked a bit neglected. hope it will be made more complete soon
Don’t know if the missing bits were a result of the conservation programme though

Thanks Mark,
That clears things up for me again. fascinating the number of resting projects that are still around.

Was this the same aircraft that had been reported in flypast at the time as having been discovered by Lance Trading?
Fantastic pics Mark, I always love to see those recovery photographs.

In the Netherlandse we have a full size static model of a Fokker G-1. It was built by a furniture factory and made of wood, the ailerons and elevators are
represented unfortunately by black lines, but it gives an excellent impression of the size of our famous G-1. Until one is reconstructed (which will be many years off) this is all we have.
A Whirlwind replica or Stirling wouldn’t be out of place at Hendon.
