Hi Nils,
Very interesting, with four engines and perhaps a lot of wreckage, do you have any means to display the items recovered? Any plans for a museum in your area.
Keep it up.

Absolutely.. but if i don’t agree with other peoples ideals or opinions then please just accept ‘the way it is for me’, and likewise i shall do the same with others.!
If you want more on the Wyvern (I have a great deal!) I will post it here as and when I am able.
Go for it.. always interested in all things Wyvern.
I have spent the past 19+ years collecting, hunting, searching, sometimes with results but more often than not leading to a dead end. And that is the root of my frustration, when something tangible and real comes to light and is lost forever.. but as always hindsight is a marvellous thing.
The Eagle engined example at Yoevilton is a fantastic exhibit, and certainly far better than nothing. But the S.4 service variant holds more of a fascination with me, its shear size, power, complexity, and somewhat ‘unique’ appearance do somewhat float my boat. But then its not everybodys cup of tea.. and thank god for that. What a boring world it would be if it was.;)
But that’s the fun of it. Against all the frustration there must have been sucesses that you have experienced and that would melt away the frustration. If you didn’t enjoy it then you would have stopped long ago. Just keep it up and through forum (fora, forii whatever) like this a lot of information is shared. Glad I picked the Halifax and not the Wyvvern, that is even harder .:)
Very intersting thread, keep discussing.

Pity how such a significant recovery gets scattered or even scrapped
Didn’t have Ted Sinclar a lot of Sabre bits? it was mentioned in the book by Clive duCros IIRC

Westland-Hill Pterodactyl – or a Northrop YB-49
Isn’t there a Pterodactyl in the Science Museum in London, I though I saw one hanging from the ceiling while visiting there a few weeks ago.
The Siskin would be a prime example if you ask me regarding it’s construction. The engine is of course a problem but if one was available for a static example for the RAFM, othere engines could be used for flying airframes such as the Fairey Flycather used.
How about a Halifax (well you thought I was going to suggest it anyway weren’t you all).

Question:
Are we 100% certain that is a Lancaster?
I can’t put my finger on why, but I keep thinking Halifax when I look at that wreckage.
Moggy
Moggy,
I thought so too at first but it looks like the roundel has an oval window in it like the Manchester/Lancaster and the bombbay structure looks to be Lancaster as well. The rivetting looks however to be flush which is not used on the Lancaster. The pics are not very clear making identification very difficult.

FN 50 turret cupola, Lancaster, Stirling
Would be a good candidate for a project.

There was one Halifax (serial in the RG=range IIRC) that was airworthy
up till 1954/1955 and then unceremoniously scrapped. Pic appeared in a 1984/1985 issue of Flypast.
And what about the Stirling then, was Short Brothers so disliked by the Air Ministry that they scrapped all examples as well as the drawings?

And a Beaufighter control wheel is a rare thing. You make your choice.

The Tangmere Sabre, is that the Pagham Harbour one?
Pity what happened to that wreck.
By the way, it’s Fort Veldhuis (the building) and situated in Heemskerk.

Hi Nils,
So they are going as far as to change the law. If you could make
some good contacts with official recovery teams perhaps you can
work out some kine of co-operation. We have a similar set-up in
The Netherlands and it works really well.
I cannot help you with Merlin schematics but MerlinPeter perhaps
can, but i can help you with all thins Halifax (the nuts and bolts
side that is).

Napier Sabres from the sea are substantial intact but the salt water is killing. Ours is gradually splitting apart horizontally. We coated it in black automotive protection “stuff” years ago to make it more presentable but the corrosion splits the block slowly but surely apart.
