another good display at southport today, the Harrier came today and the falcons managed to jump, as the wind and rain never really materialised, all the other items flew excluding the Lancaster, I am looking forward to next years show
a similar thing may happen here in the north west at Barton aerodrome (Manchester), salford council want to turn it into a major airport with a freight rail link, it is the only grass strip aerodrome still in use or maybe even surviving in the NW ! opened in 1930.
It still puzzles me as to why the Lancaster hasn’t been allocated participation at Flying Legends recently, instead of other duxford shows throughout the year. I would rather see PA474 at legends with other legendary aircraft than at the may or september shows at duxford !
my first airshow was in southport in 1994, it was wet and the bbmf cancelled however I do recall a superb display by a tornado F3 making the most of a very low cloudbase, with 360 degree turns near to the crowd with full afterburners on, made the ground shudder and my heart vibrate fantastic !:D
I hope this crash doesn’t mean the end of airshows, the accident from the footage looked remarkably like the kingcobra accident I have a horrible feeling another accident will happen tommorow like at Biggin in 2001. 😡
The RNHF have lost 3 aircraft in their history, 2 seafury’s the same pilot John Beattie at the helm of both aircraft, and now the firefly. The seahawk and new Seafury both have engine problems, theyve had a bad time of it really.:(
