Cheers
did not think of looking on there.
I hope to start the process of salvaging the remains of my hard drive on Saturday or Sunday if things are not recoverable I do have a paper copy of all what I reseached a dozen or so pages of text, typing it all back in will not be a problem as my scanner has character recognition for text documents it works quite well but can confuse the odd letter Ship normally turns into a rude word…
I had made a start at a basic website which is also on the currently dead hard drive I have some “free” space from my server only snag is I cant remember the log in details…
There was a Category 5 write off as a result of a landing accident at Southend.
A-20G 41-3380, 670th BS / 416th BG, 16th October 1944. The pilot is recorded as Chester R. Jackson.
I’ve not found a P-38 but I did find a couple of P-51s and P-47s that were involved in accidents, but I only searched for Southend.
A20 did not know about that what was the information on the P51’s & P47.
Got a local video that shows the aftermath of the Meteor crash interviewing the peopel that saw it, seem to recall reading something about the aircraft having been grounded a short time before the crash due to over stressing of the airframe just cant remember where I saw it though.
Cheers for the help,
Amazingly after a hours surfing the net. countless cups of tea and Boost bars and one very numb bum!
I found it!

I will carry on digging the bloke was fairly sure it was a Liberator “High wing for engine american bomer” he said,
How about this challange
P38 Lightning crashed near Southend 23rd May 1944
I does seem there is a lot of feeling still for the museum – let me know if you would like to set something up – we could get a ‘tribute’ website up and running fairly quickly if anyone wanted to (this could be a potential launch point for a book also I guess …)
I agree it was a great shame the way things went – I would imagine had it survived it could have been a major attraction for Southend (given the popularity of the airshow)… much more than the subsequent use of the site !
I had been working on a booklet type publication and a website all about the museum and its collection of aircraft where they were before the museum and what have happened to them since sadly just over a month ago my hard drive dicided to go and die big time this is the first time I have been able to get back on line since… a month with no computer felt like I was in the dark ages,
Stupidly I had not backed it all up so am having to redo everything, I am hoping to recover as much of the data as possible over the next couple of months by having the orgininal hard drive (new one now in the computer) checked over by by somebody who knows what they are doing.

Superb well done
They have said as long as they do not move the wreck it will not blow up but…
She is beginning to accelerate her break up, apart from the rather large gap where she broke her back a crack is opening up on the hull running top to bottom.
There is a sea scar on one side of the wreck which it might topple into which could reduce the blast but increase the tial wave that the blast would cause.
The Isle of Sheppy would be devistated by the blast, Southend would loose most of its windows and both town would suffer major flouding.
anyone got a rubber ring I could borrow I cant swim…
SS Richard Montgomery abandoned on 25th September 1944 in the Thames Estuary,
and I live in Southend about 5 miles from it…

hopefully the problem was not too bad, you can hear that 190 from miles off, which gives just enough time to put the mug of tea down, remove the cat from the lap, and place the newspaper next to you and run outside, only to return to find said cat has stolen all the bacon out your bacon butty 😡
worth it just to see the 190 again though.
Spitfire & 190 low over Southend the 190 had her gear down
Sea Fury & ? followed close behind
I think you’ll find the guy who was ‘ejected’ had http://www.cloud9photography.us written on his stupidly large camera lense…
He was out of order and deserves to be banned from Duxford (and the UK) for life.
What did he do? I was on the bank but at the other end where the buger and smoothie vans were saw the stuards go along then a copper they came back escorting the guy, PM if need be just intrested to find out what happened.
Spitfire, Mustang, Skyraider and another warbird (not sure what) just buzzed SOuthend low and loud heading North to Duxford
