The Scion dose still exist G-AEZF

She was originally operated as a floatplane by Elders Colonial Airways in Sierra Leone, she returned to Shorts in 1939 and converted into a landplane in 1941.

She flew for Shorts for another six years it was eventually sold on to Air Couriers Ltd. in 1947 a nomatic few years followed where she changed hands a number of times before finally ending up at Southend airport, where it was allowed to become derelict.

The mortal remians of ZF were passed on to theMuseum but this was just the very batterd remins of the fuseularge frame. a restoration/re-build was being under taken and the aircraft was exhibited at a number of events in and arround Southend including the Bus Rally.

When the museum closed the aircraft moved to a garage in Southend where the restoration continued it then moved to the Thameside Aviation Museum and then on to Redhill I beleve it is still there.

Doug Stanton’s In Harms Way is a very powerful read, thought provoking and is a book that you cant put down, “just one more page” turns in to another chapter by the time you relise it you have finished the book, if you know of the story of the USS Indianapolis it open the whole tragic event up, if you dont know the story then you sure will after reading the book, it can be picked up cheaply on E-bay, Amazon etc:

Mike Rossiter’s Ark Royal (The Life, Death and Rediscovery of the Legendary Second World War Aircraft carrier) details the search for the wreck of the carrier & its discovery it also highlights her service history in the Med & Atlantic its a must have book.
