The first offical raid by a German Zepplin was in January when the Norfolk town of Great Yarmouth was bombed but what a lot of people dont know is that in Demember the pervious year a unknown German Type flew over Southend-on-Sea on a bombing mission and was sucsessfull in finding and delivering its payload on the town…

    A handfull of rusty rivits!

The bombs on the wreck would have been fused if these are fragmentation devices they will become unstable through time.

A detonation would be caused by its lead azide constituent reacting with water vapour (rather than liquid seawater) to form hydrazoic acid, it would react with copper in the detonating cap, to form extremely sensitive and unstable copper azide.

Any slight knock of movement in the device could cause the copper azide to explode, triggering an explosive chain reaction resulting in the detonation of the munitions.

The above is taken from a document I compiled on the Richard Montgomery I would guess the bombs would me made from much the same material.

I wonder if another reason for the sponsorship ending ,is that there will be another twin boom aircraft flying in Red Bulls colours, on the circuit soon and that they will have ownership of this one……..?

    What aircraft is that then?

I would guess the reason the Belfast was not moved was because its ownd by an off field operator so they would probablt wany thier own people moving it or be on site when its being moved, and anyway like you said its a big old lump so was probablt turned early on in the day.

An Md80 & Bae 146 had a comming together as well.

It is sad to report that the Shorts Belfast G-BEPS currently under going restoration at Southend has been damaged by the storms currently raging arround us.

The aircraft has been turned 90 degrees and suffred extensive damage to its rear loading ramp.

All vehicles were banned from the MOD Pendine Sands (range) in 2004 due to possible unexploded bombs.

Pendine Sands was also where the land speed records were attempted in the UK before the beach got too small.

    WA$.

Depends on how old the programme was, they did use Penine a lot for filming before the ban.

Superb footage of the Jag, 911 and the BMW? strutting thier stuff with the Jag winning
