“if so its a variation of the Napier Sabre ”
Last Lightning
A variation of the Napier Sabre ????
Please tell me/us more
it was on discovery channel about a week ago Chris Barries big engines program, a car that was built just after the war for a go at the land speed record powerd by a napier sabre. Apparently it holds the recorg for doing the fastest lap round Brooklands which still stands.
According to the programme their is only two people in the world who can be insured to drive it. It has two seats, very long and silver hence my thinking that it could have been the one seen at Brooklands.
Ok must be having a major brain problem
http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/motoring_exhibits.cfm then click on NAPIER COMPETITION CAR
Thanks for all these replies folks – especially the pics. Still hoping to see a photo of the car I saw at Brooklands in the 1990s though – and hope it might still be around (its not the one that was at Chailey this year).
Could this have been the long silver thing at the Beaulie Motor Museum if so its a variation of the Napier Sabre not a Merlin
🙂 😀 🙂
my worst car……all of them they are all like one sided banks you give them money, tires, fuel, road tax etc what do they give back? Break downs, bald tires, empty fuel tanks and depreciation in value 😮
My best car……. a plastic pig van…….rear wheel drive, Twin 1100cc Kwaq engines, twin clutches, one gear box plus some very clever engineering all fitted in the back.2 seat and a roll cage. The thing does wheelies so can be very scary cos it steers from the front wheel :diablo: :dev2:
Any volunteers for a ride?
p.s. the vomit bags, flask, sandwiches etc go in the glove box where the mower engine used to be 😀
lol 😀 😀
hi all
i grew up next to Skegness airfield and it was brilliant 😎 😎 plenty of planes to watch every day the odd chipmunk of the bbmf calling in every now and again the odd flyin with movements from dusk to dawn 😉 . Sometimes an occasional display of aerobatics (most weekends) plus the fun of watching student pilots doing their first landing even watched one land upside down once 🙁 although all occupants survived.
Then one day the place closed down half the airfield was bought by Butlins the other half turned to farming land. 🙁 🙁
All i had left then was tornadoes flying over on approach to Conningsby but even they got bored and moved to Scotland 🙁 😡
Now this area is so dull that the most excitement i have is mowing the lawn and dreaming of times past. 🙁 🙁 🙁
Does anyone remember Skegness aerodrome?
second to last photo what is it?
first dedication ive been to quite a moving experience
nobodys got a clue then thanx
Looks like Howard Cook from the photo, Clive Denney also flies her!
The picture af Charlie looks like a cardboard cutout!!! Imagine buying them from the museum shop!!! 😀
i suppose their could be a few quid in it if people got it right the spitfires the cardboard cut out
Nice pictures, I like the one with Charlie Brown, hes cute 😉 Anna 🙂
What about the guy who pilots their hurricane seem to recal i have a shot of him to 😮
Is that a lifesize dummy of Charlie Brown?
For a life size dummy he sure talked and walked well even to the point of putting some cleaning stuff away before he would let me take his picture 😉
