    Oh dear oh dear…

Look I did it to get my “We are for any inconvenience caused… ” joke in. Please note the happy smiley faces attached to all of my posts.

    Everyone have a nice weekend.

Arh you said the word “thank you”. Thats nice.

Wasn’t knocking what they do. I was just pointing out that they want something for free and can’t bring themselves to say please or thank you. Manners cost nothing, my Mum told me so it must be true..

    🙂

We here at BBMF are about to begin the process of compiling our Brochure for next year. Therefore we would like to invite forum members to tender any pictures of our aircraft taken this year they think might look good in the Brochure. We would prefer them to be sent to us on CD so that we could peruse them and select those we like. The contributor would get an acknowledge in the Brochure of course. All contributions to be sent to OC BBMF with a S.A.E if you want the CD returning

RAF NEWS FLASH – Recent cutbacks mean no more use of the words “please” “would appreciate” “sorry” and “thank you”. We are for any inconvenience caused… 🙂

Fantastic pictures, what a model. Imagine hearing the bluenote off those gun ports.

    Hi Skybolt,

In my opinion it doesn’t retore the lines of the original Argus engine and I agree with you that it doesn’t look as good as the Renault engined version. Sadly (and I hope she isn’t reading this), I think she looks ugly, especially at the front. They were never going to get the shape right when the original inverted “V” of the Argus engine would compliment the pear shaped fuselage. Now the flat 6 is mounted high meaning the pear shape needs to reverse at the firewall if you see what I mean. Sorry, poorly explained.

Anyway what it does have is push button and go reliability. I would like to try and find an original Argus for her even if it just sits in the barn until the Lycoming times out. I know of two people doing the conversion at the moment so it might be as well to sit back and see how they solve all the problems..

    🙂

We had a trip down this path in 1998/9.

When purchased the 108 was on the “Experimental” N reg which would usually restrict it to flight within US Airspace. The FAA released the aircraft to fly in the UK (and CAA accepted it) for an initial 3 months, later extended to 6, while we applied for a UK CofA.

Both sides were great, yes lots of paperwork and a few bumps here and there but the CAA were very positive and dare I say it a pleasure to work with.

Flew Lindsey Walton’s Nord 1002 G-ATBG for a couple of films where the aerial arrangements were with “Jeff” Hawke. “92 Grosvenor Street” was filmed in Norway near Trondheim in a narrow gorge below a hydroelectric dam and I had strobes fitted to the ersatz cannons externally mounted in the wings. These plus a damn great transformer or rectifier in the back seat along with a ton of batteries to power the strobes. Quite realistic. Trapper 69

    Hi Trapper69,

I now have those wing guns in my barn!! Long story but Tom Harris who purchased Lindseys 108 gave them to me in exchange for a mezzanine floor for his hanger!! Boys eh…

Anyway, I quite fancied putting them on the 108 for shows and I have located the Luton CAA Mod paperwork which sadly can only be released to me with permission from the original company who lodged the modification. I believe that company no longer exists..

Can you offer any help? PM me if you can, it would be good to chat..

    Thanks

Well I had a good friend who came from Buenos Aires, Argentina JUST for the show. Arrived 6am on Sat and left 3pm yesterday. That’s a 14,000 mile, 36 hour (with knees up nose), £1,100 round trip.

He thought it was well worth it.

Before FL he’d seen Stearmans and one T6 fly so the sight of 10 Spits all at once was beyond belief. He didn’t mention the “drama queens”, and he didn’t mention the engineers hanging around (I did tell him before he left that the UK summer was perfect, but it was just that the 362 days either side of the summer could be cold and wet).

I think we should consider ourselves very lucky for what we have on our doorstep without getting so tied up with the subtle details of how it might be presented..

Many of the warbirds flying today have killed people. You know those little black cross symbols by the canopy. But thats great, it even makes the airframe worth more…

    Its a funny old world.

The DH Heron is parked at our local airport most day’s, they may be persuaded to help. I guess it would cost about £80 per veteran, but it maybe impractical to hop from airfield to airfield. We’d have to get them all in one place at the same time.

What about approaching Mike Collett and his people at Air Atlantique?

Thats a great idea. Does anyone on the forum have a relationship with Air Atlantique??

Well done, Taifun! Bet it’s the first time he’d flown an ‘enemy’ aircraft 😉

No actually he was telling us that during wartime he had flown a captured 109, but really didn’t rate it. Usual complaint – terrible view out and tricky to get on and off the ground…

Sadly he won’t be at Legends as his wife has a hospital appointment. We offered to give him a lift so he could avoid all the traffic.

In fact it got me thinking that we could all get together and offer these guys trips to some of the bigger airshows. I don’t know if anyone wants to run a poll and see how many aircraft owners / operators there are on the Forum? Then the flyers would need some help to attack the logistics of it all. Cars to collect these gentlemen from home to get them to the departure airfield etc etc. Historic aircraft would obviously be of interest but I’m guessing not all of these chaps are as nimble as Pete is today so spamcans to big twins would help with those who would prefer not to have to negotiate a wingwalk.

We could do this if we wanted, it just takes us all to be motivated enough to want it to happen. We owe them 1,000,000 times more than this, but its a start.

    Ideas guys and girls….
