    Chris,

MJ627 is indeed kept at East Kirkby and operates from the old airfield. Saw a display by her in late October and it was nothing short of superb. Low and Fast……..lovely.

Its also great to see that Arco and HFL will paint the spit in her IAAC colours. Great to see that someone recognises that not every spitfire has to be painted in BoB colours or grey/green camo. Now of only someone would have the original idea of painting a Buchon in Spanish Air Force livery……

…….only kidding, not my money so they can paint it as they please 🙂

If they are proven, and i stress IF as i do not know but i suspect they are, to save the lives of pilots in situations where survival would not be possible without them then i think they should be Mandotory.

Its ok Moggy saying, “We are quite capable of making our own minds up whether to wear a helmet or not……They are our heads”, but if they save lives then they should be worn and lets also not forget that the actions of some, right or wrong, will reflect on others.

If we have less fatalities in warbird displayign and operation then so much the better for everyone, wearing bonedomes may not ensure this but it may be a small step towards helping it.

A side point, if we make a Spitfire pilot wear protective headgear then shoudl we apply this to the next aviator down the strip in his Cessna 150?

    hears to a safe 2004,

    best regards, steve

DazdaMan, did we watch the same film! 🙂 I thought Dark Blue World had a hell of a lot of potential. The cinematography was beautiful, the script was well written but when it comes to the love triangle………….how long did it take that to immerge!?…not very long. Ive seen kettles boil in a shorter timespan 🙂 I wonder who they had write this part of the script, mills and boon? 🙂

If i’d have directed this film i’d have concentrated more on the central character and comparing his life in the prison barracks to this time during the war and would either have forgotten the love triangle or made it a central part of the film. But then again, i didnt direct it 🙁

Looks interesting, hope its not as daft as the channel four documentary on the Dambusters.

Looks to be some stunning air to air sequences in store with ML407

At Sandtoft one of the B25s (or TB-25 ? ) from the film still clings to life. It’s Gorgeous George Ann markings are still visibile.

Anyone know of the situation with the so called restoration of this and the Lanc/Lincoln sections.

    best regards steve.

I think in the case of the Hendon there would be little space for taxing so i should rephrase it as just engine running. This would be very safe as long as care was taken and would eliminate the risk that WarbirdUK has outlined with Taxing. Keeping the airframes active, well a select few, would also be extremely beneficial in the long term and may also be advantageous if a decision was ever made to get the aircraft airworthy again (tragically highly unlikely)

Sadly i don’t think Audio samples of the engines or videos can ever replace the experience of standing behind an hisitoric aircraft as it runs its engines up and feeling the full force of the prop wash in your face 🙂 You only have to look at East Kirkby to see how safely and succesful taxi runs can be.

    best regards, steve

Ant, i’m in complete agreement with your ‘whacking great hanger’ suggestion but i think as is often the case for ventures which are funded in this way, applications for funding which include buildings or architectural interest and innovation are looked upon in a more favourable light (American Air Museum for example) than just a plan for a straightforward practical proposal.

Perhaps because not everyone on here visits the Airliner Forum and not everyone on the Airliner Forum comes on here 🙂

    Thanks A330 for the photos.

A330………don’t know why that would appeal to you with a name like that 😉

No aviation items for me, the closest was a tripod which will no doubt help endlessly for taking aircraft photographs.
