About 124 inches for the GE90.
I don’t think it’s that big. The GE90 was the biggest (diameter wise) of the 3 777 engines, but it was only marginally bigger. If the Trent and the PW have diameters of 110 inches, then the GE90’s is like 112, or something. It’s not 14 inches longer than the other 2.
Jeanske, the 720 testbed you mention is owned by Pratt & Whitney Canada, which makes prop engines. For the 777 engine program, P&W actually brought the original 747 (line #1) out of retirement, leasing it from Boeing in order to use as a testbed for the PW4070.
but the number of bmi A321s and British Airways A319s/A320s is ridiculous!
Well, yeah, Michael, seeing as they are based there. Go to ATL and you’re going to see a boatload of DL narrow bodies. Go to SFO, ORD, or IAD, you’re going to see a boatload of UA narrowbodies. And soforth.
All the times I’ve been at LHR, I also see quite a few AC example, but not just the A330. I have seen A340’s and 767’s as well. I’m guessing they have quite a few dailies from all 3 of their hubs in LHR. Then again, you usually see quite a few AA and UA examples, as well. I remember one pic that was posted a year or so ago, had 7 UA birds parked in T3 at once.
Great shots Andrew. Are OA back to sending the A300-600 to LHR or does the A340 still operate 1 or 2 of the dailies?
I jest of course!
I know, Sandy. I have no problem with you and Matthew messing with me. 😉
How do these compare to the 777 engines in fan diameter and thrust? I’m sure we’re talking about similar engines, but the newer A380 engines being slightly more fuel efficient, perhaps? Also, the ‘American’ engines are not just GE, they are Engine Alliance Pratt/GE together, right? Very low ground clearance for those beasts on their testbeds!
Pity its got the crappy watered down engine type though lol
NONSENSE!!! 😡
Great photo Dazza.
Great photos Michael. I especially approve of the one with Star Alliance flavour, containing birds from British Midland, Air Canada and Thai. Very above average.
Does OA serve BEI?

Shed or not, I’d jump at the chance to fly on a Tristar again. Heck, I’ll bring my tools with me just to add to the atmosphere! 😀
Provided you’re not messing with air traffic and you have permission, I’m sure it’s possible. I was flying with someone in their Piper Cherokee 2 years ago and we flew directly over SNA, then promptly landed there.
An amendment to my previous post. Southwest has no flights in/out of SFO, only San Jose (SJC) and Oakland (OAK), both of which are pretty hubs for WN. This makes even more sense for VirginUSA to make a base out of SFO.
Thanks for that Dutchy. My favourite Soccer team (although you couldn’t tell from my avatar nor handle, for that matter) is the Dutch national team. Now I see where their symbol came from as well.
I would think that KL’s A330’s would have GE’s and not Pratts like the one pictured.
