Not a lot I can say, Steve – I had limited hours on it & did not fly it operationally.
Briefly, compared with earlier marks – Griffony raspiness, touchy on trim changes, & nose heaviness on the ground.
But a delight – markedly superior to the IX, XII & XVI, without loss of manoeuvrability.
And much nicer to fly than the 21!!

You missed my Avatar as well, Jay………….??

And your purpose…??

And I’ve already apologised.

Thank you for that – quite a story.
In passing, in Jimmy Kyle’s fist edition (which did you read?) he had a cross over my head in the squadron montage.
Knowing he was nearby in the Cotswolds, I called him and invited him over for lunch.
The second edition now has a tick over my head!!

That’s an amazing bit of writing!! I shall read & re-read for some time.
Shame I can’t tie the knot.
What is your background, if I may ask?

Stewart?
Strange – I seem to recall, but neither my Rogues Gallery nor my record show him…..??
But it was a sprawled unit – between Speke, Archangel, Halifax & Gibraltar.
And no trace in HURRICATS by Ralph Barker.

PS – Even stranger perhaps? Only yesterday I binned the list of pilots which had been on the disk for a year perhaps………!!
Thanks, Boss! Hope I haven’t spoken out of turn.
His #33 seemed to be his intent.

As a matter of ? interest, a chap in Cardiff did an EXACT copy of mine a while back, & then passed it on to another, who appears to have little interest in it – ie he would not accept a whole page amendment to a BofB entry.
Pity!

How, please, Someone, do I get this on email when it’s not on the Forum??

Wikipedia’s got nothing on you, Duggy!!
And those were the ONLY e/a in the UK? So my 110 was a C? And the 190??
The 109 that I was to have flown was possibly the one that got damaged in May ’45 – by an Australian I believe.
Strange that I could be misinformed on both 110 & 190 by the experts of the day?
Does this cast doubt over all my other designations??
Ah, well, PC apart, it was ‘jolly good fun’!!

Really didn’t mean to hijack this thread.
Stories? Beggars can’t be choosers? So here’s one of the few bits ever written with my pen. Not even about Spitfires.

Serial numbers, James?
No obvious reason. Maybe there weren’t any?
I only intermittently recorded them throughout my Service. More’s the pity?

Good thinking, Steve.
110A – why unlikely?
190D – I wish!! But I only recall a radial.
Further thoughts?

Book? E/A?
Book.
1. I’m not a storyteller. I can answer some questions.
2. I wasn’t there at the time. Bit like icing on the cake. Tasted the trimmings & never get stuck into the heavy bit in the middle!
For those who haven’t seen them, I attach a couple of quotes which about sum up my career.
E/A.
1. Fw 190. Compared with other radials – Tempest II, Fury, P47, F4U etc – seemed rather harsh, & insubstantial due to its light handling. Nice points – wide track, good early climb, terrific rate of roll & good vision airborne.
2. Me110.. More like a shopping trolley! Not helped by the fact that, on re-joining & selecting Flaps, I didn’t have the sense to use the provided control to counteract the strong change in trim, meaning that I had one hell of a job keeping the thing pointing in the right direction!!
Ah, well – live (hopefully) & learn?
= all the best, Tim
