Took me a moment – but what a beauty!!

Oh, dear – senile – read died last year as same year, so ignored.
Yes – the younger.

So who/which was the John Sowrey who let me fly one of his squadron’s Spit 21s in 1947??

Trafalgar? My best friend – Pat Hancock – lived & died just down the road – Waterlooville.
He would have loved it!! Third from left.

“We’ll probably lose the rest of the vets this year“.
Ooooh, Andy – how depressive!!
This one, for one, is not leaving yet!!

Aha – but was he flying in one of them??
Not proud!!

Forget Buccaneers – fly a real aeroplane!!
This is what they had in my day.

Back to the other bit of the thread – more of the same………..
Damned sight more sensible than flying in your No1s as we did!!
Is that good?
Certainly good to hear all the background.
Sad that it’s actually found its way into Northolt’s (where it was based!) excellent Battle of Britain Perspective.

Don’t know but I imagine a hangover from Fury days where (from my Hart/Hind days) one got covered in oil??
Like these silly b+++++s trying to run with their ‘chutes on. If it ‘s fitted properly you can’t. Another rant!!
No problem clarifying this one?
There was only one Arthur Clowes.
As seen before…………..
All grist to the mill – & new since our day.
A couple of photos to show how the other half lived for 3 months!

Malden strip, Chris? I’ll believe you, but my eyesight’s not that good!
And since it was highly contaminated by the tests, I wouldn’t have liked to land there.
As to Tongareva, that was one of the isles where we installed microbarographs to monitor the tests.
Majuro? That really is a floating strip!! But at least it has a bit of width?
Waipahu? Then you’ll well know the field that we used to call Hickalulu?
Just for fun – a couple of photos from Fiji. Get that monster??

Negative, Chris – Malden didn’t have a strip (?) & is a bit of land surrounded ny water. Tongareva (rather like Aitutaki) is a lot of water surrounded by land!
And Christmas, as you know, is half way between those 2 extremes.
Interesting, though, because you’ve led me to this – http://www.islandsbusiness.com/islands_business/index_dynamic/containerNameToReplace=MiddleMiddle/focusModuleID=18807/overideSkinName=issueArticle-full.tpl – things I was better off not knowing at the time?
Carrier? This is the only one I’ve flown off – & that was a damned sight too small! (350′ usable).
