You can count 11 jets on the top there I think.

I know you will all slate me for this, but half of the work done by Carriers is their image. You seen a CVN and you think crap thats a lot of planes, why would you mess with that. Can we get some dumy F-35’s to make the deck look a bit more formidable!!

If the Harpoons from the decommissioned Type 22s are moved to Daring and Dauntless and so along, along with Phalanxs from Ark Royal and others, this statement will look a lot less false than it does now.

Agree completely. At the moment these ships are not as they should be.

I always rather liked this picture of the Thales design for CVF

it seems very wrong to me too 🙁 we need something and I doubt we will be buying P-8’s. We are left with nothing.

    I don’t think it will.
The CVF won’t have a sky-jump anymore, actually. A block less to build (work possibly replaced by the larger angled-deck module, however)

India: same as for China and Russia. Mig29K and Su33 should be CTOBAR, so no catapults…

We’ll see. I just hope things work the right way.

Yes EMALS do work on ski jumps and I wasnt talking about the UK using them with Ski Jumps given the fact they are losing the ski jump.

I was wondering out loud if one could be incorporated into a STVOL carrier such as Juan Carlos in order to increase the range of the F-35B by removing the need to use the lift fan for take off. And if by looking at this we might open the possibility of Spain and Italy and even Australia and Japan being interested.

Yes America might finnish first and might be cheap but the UK could develop an equally good system that makes people consider their purchase.

What the hell is the UK going to do with ITS OWN cats and traps…? No one else will ever buy them…

I really dont know about this statement it depends if we get it right and we get it right and at the right time.

French would probably be interested in the long run – yes they could buy US but with our new ideas of working together we might be the people to turn to. Yes they have nuke and steam cats but as we all know they place more strain on the aircraft than EMALS.

India – they would be really interested in this technology and buying it, US is’nt guranteed to offer it to them. It will work on a ski jump and if they can make sure that the impact on the deck is minimal i.e 0.5m then this is something that could be added to the Vikrant Carrier at a later date and allow them to take off with heavier loads and the possibility of launching a proper AEW asset.

Brazil – would have to be interested

Russia – would they be interested? Would we sell it?

China – non starter unless we list the ban and we arent likely to any time yet.

I have always wondered this as well.

Could EMALS be used on the F-35B – I know not designed for it but is it as simple as chaning the front gear? If you could put one EMAL on the front of a STVOL carrier wouldnt you massively reduce the fuel needed to get of the deck of the carrier and therefor allow for better range? Still coming back for a Vertical Landing? If this is possible well then who else would be interested would have to include Italy Spain Japan?

I want to poke Cameron with a sharp stick (less law breaking?)

The F-35C should not be allowed any where near the F#%king RAF, they will never allow it to go to sea for more than a week.

MOD site spues lies and more lies

The Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier will give the UK political and military flexibility in responding to crises. It will routinely have 12 Joint Strike Fighters, plus helicopters embarked for operations. The aircraft’s 700 mile range over land and sea, will enable it to carry out a broad range of missions.

The Royal Navy will be equipped with 19 frigates and destroyers to protect a Naval Task Group and meet our standing commitments at home and overseas. These will include six new Type 45 destroyers and new Type 26 frigates.

This force, though smaller than currently, will provide military flexibility and choice across a variety of operations from full-scale warfare, through coercion and reassurance to presence, and maritime security (in particular protecting trade and energy supplies).

What a load of absolute political crap. 12 JSF wow and routinely that sounds amazingly like – one in a blue moon

Suffice to say, India won’t be getting a free carrier, so don’t worry your little head about it.

Also, why are you flying a naval flag when you are clearly favouring India over the UK, you filthy traitor you 😀

Im in favour of any one willing to actually build up numbers rather than cut

Ok im not to proud. I want some American Military Aid. We’ve done a lot with the US over the past 10 years and the price for being a partner is that the US leases us for free 30 F-18 Super Hornets, until such time as we are able to buy the F-35C. So basically from 2016 to 2020.

So what does the UK get out the deal?

The knowledge that at least some one is using them.

Even the British understand that having a few jump jets on a carrier won’t do much good against any country with a decent air force. So I consider it a wise decision what they did. I am sure India would also rather wait than buying something that does not add to its current capability i.e the Ark Royal. And on the Gorshkov even by the worst estimates it would be in IN service before the end of the decade.

I got the Harrier bit wrong I admit but my point on the Ark Royal is still valid.

When the Viraat came out of Refit last year it was said it can if needed easily soldier on for another 10 years, I do not see a gap in capability on that front. Besides the Ark Royal cannot help India practice carrier ops with the MiG 29K.

Thank you for pointing out the Mig 29 issue I was quite unaware that a STOBAR aircraft couldnt land on a STOVL carrier

But keeping pilots trained in any carrier ops is much much better than not.
