I think he means those are the ships that would be used for the CSG i.e

In one CSG it would be
    1 CVF
    1 T45
    1 T26
    1Global Multi-Role Patrol Ships
    1 SSN

In another SG it would be
    1 LPD
    1 LSD
    1 T45
    1 T26
    1 Global Multi-Role Patrol Ships
    1 SSN

An so on – either that or he doesnt understand the make up of a CSG.

The RN should probably have, and by the way this would be a fantastic CSG.

    1 CVF
    1 Type 45
    1 Tpye 23
    1 SSN
    1 Fleet Replen

If we were lucky otherwise it would just be the cvf type 45 ssn and a fleet replen ship

I do agree though with the idea of the F-35C and the RAF having a number of them also to replace the Tornado GR4.

Ditch the GR4’s now – god I hate saying that – great great plane.

Stick it out with the Typhoon. 2020 All F-35C that have been used on the carriers up to now handed over to the RAF as we purchase new F-35C for the Navy.

RAF get nearly new F-35C and the Navy gets all new F-35C after a few hundred cat launches recoverys.

put the sampson at 25,000 feet and see how far it will see.

Basically the AEW can operate high and far from the carrier giving you a much better idea at what might be coming towards you.

In that case if your goign to buy INFERIOR planes, just buy upgraded F-4s or sky hawks. I mean they are just as capable as a EF versus s-300 systems Jsut cheaper. :diablo:

Cos there arent any left with times on the frames.

I always liked he idea of the F35-C it would be nice. But I still think we’ll end up with the B. If we did end up with C i would hope they wouldnt settle for using a helicopter for AEW. We dont need it at in 2014 we need in 2015 and hope that by then our gov could manage to find 300 mil for a couple to start with

I havent had much time to put in any good posts on the forum so I wont change that now.

Just too say – Give me the money to get 8 of these off the ground

    http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/194/c3news.png

And then for the C2 role to replace the 22’s and give the fleet some numbers again – give me 6 of these and then we can start replacing the Type 23 with the Type 26.

I have no words. It is worse than a horror movie. FAR worse.

I couldnt agree more – I am simply past words in how bad this could get. I always accepted we would never be a tier 1 navy and that the Royal Navy would never rule the waves. But serioulsy did I think it would get this bad? Never in a million years. A conservative government has cut the navy to shreds – yes Labour caused it but for heavens sake dont cut defence!!

Not stirring it – honest but I seen loads of posts on why the navalised Typhoon was a non-starter and why we cannot upgrade Harrier but I have not really seen my much on the Tornado. Not that I am holding it up as a model of a good programme but the Nimrod MR4 does show you can take an old plane and make radical changes to the airframe. Is the reason why you cannot take old Tornado’s, strengthen their air frames, add new landing gear and arrestor gear more about the cost (i.e. likely to be more than buying new aircraft) or is it to do with the changes being to great that it would be simply impossible to re-engineer the Tornado?

It was never designed for the stresses / sea air / low speed approach and many many many other reasons why it could never be a carrier aircraft – sure it might look a little like the F-14 but it really isn’t

    Thanks for the information.

Maybe Brazil would be interested in the cancelled Trinidad & Tobago OPVs. They seem to fit the requirement, are available quickly, & should be a good price, because BAe will be keen to sell rather than be lumbered with unsold ships.

I think one is complete, one nearly so, one building. Add a fourth to the order, & the immediate OPV requirement is filled.

I didnt think they were Tinidads unsold OPV’s thought they were Middle Eastern ones.

Any way. I agreed with what was said earlier, if the UK wants this we need to work for it. Brazil gets rights to promote/sell/build for latin america combined company with BAE and local company probably 60/40 ownership. BAe UK gets rest of the world. Tech transfer of course.

The Type 26 has the time frame right in order fo Brazil to be in a prime position to egt many sales in South America – Chile for one will be looking in 10 years to upgrade so will others.

why don’t we just ditch the F-35 for a navalised Typhoon or Tornado or just upgrade the Harrier? It’d be cheaper

No it wouldnt – dont be stupid – read past post about this.

typhoon – cost to much to navalise
Tornado – could never ever ever be navalised.
Upgrade harrier- its old and tired and not worth it.

ahhhh I hate this post coming up every couple of months

Typhoon being selected in MMRCA; with RN and perhaps Italian AM (and possibly Spain too?) selecting the ski-jump capable naval Tejas under development in exchange?

The Italian and Spanish Carriers can only ever operate STOVL aircraft. They do not have an angled deck for recovery or length to to be able to recover.

Australia has been cleared to receive the EA-18G. The last 12 RAAF F/A-18F are wired for this.

No decision has been made to proceed, but this green lights the upgrades.

a fantastic capability to have. Something I wish the RAF had.
