The next 50 years are going to be about resources and lack there of.

Its predicted that the population of the planet will increase from close 6billion ish to 9billion +.

We will be fighting our wars to maintain our standard of living in the next 50 years. Our vital trade routes and links by sea will be the most important thing to protect. Our nation depends on the sea and we need to be ready to defend it.

Our navy needs the tools to do this and for that we must pay.

I really think that the Indians need to be looking at the experiences of NATO and how we tried to counter the treat posed by the Soviet Sub fleet.

The UK is smaller than Sweden in size. The Swedes have troops in Afghanistan too.
Sweden can not count on the support of the whole NATO, when Britain is just a middle size power in the NATO. In the end the USA will decide if the British are allowed to keep the Falklands f.e..
The last British protectorate proper was the Solomon Islands, which gained independence in 1978; the last British protected state was Brunei, which gained full independence in 1984.
All from the last century as some thinking and feeling about kept alive by the immigrants from countries, but they do give the impression only as some movies do. Welcome in the European reality.

That is what France has about that.

    Utter drivel if I’m honest.

putting big bombs on the runway will help, one plane can still do enough to keep a runway from being operational.

Put some Rafale’s on the deck and she would be formidable.

a container size power plant for the CVf would be attractive thoguh would it not especially it its sealed and requires no input. Im just thinking of 10-20 years time when we think can we change this about a bit?

    many thanks great pictures.

They did say in the piece though that they had a new layout for 2009. Its a great looking ship and I am sure that the Chinese will learn a alot from working with the Brazilian Navy.

I really would like to see Brazil up its defence spending and re equip its Navy. I really dont believe though that they need a carrier given what they want to achieve.

I know this is going to sound really stupid, but what the hell.

I was reading this article over the weekend in the times.
    http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/utilities/article6982328.ece

And I wondered if 10 years in the future the Gov goes, crap its costing a hell of a lot to keep these things at sea when oil is at £200 a barrel. Could they remove the turbines and just drop something along the lines of this in its place. Given its claimed simplicity?
