The Lizzie is the ex British Commonwealth Air Training Plan one at Brandon in Canada
It was in Germany a while and was to be sold to Portugal but I heard it was not ‘original enough’ for the portugese. Read into that what you will.
So now it has ended up in France. They deserve one, what with all the Resistance recovery and everything. I just wish they had not scrapped the one the RAF gave them!!

Ray has also been involved in documenting all RN aircraft from 1911 to 1939 in 2 other books:
Royal Navy Aircraft Serials and Units 1911-1919
Fleet Air Arm Aircraft, Units and Ships 1920 to 1939
As the introduction to his latest says ‘No other air arm has had the history of its aircraft so thoroughly documented’

The imporatnt thing is to ask….
How long have you lived in Headcorn??
The only people who can honestly complain is those who were there (if any) before the airfield was built
To all the others.. Didn’t you notice that you were next to an airfield when you bought your home? What do you expect??
I have the same beef with Heathrow expansion complainers.. I live in Berkshire (not far from Windsor).. I KNOW Heathrow was there I still made the choice to live there!..
Heinkel apperrs to be a KGr.100 machine they had the code N6 (aircraft appears to be N6+NH) so making it I/Kr.100.
They were based in May 1940 in Norway I think it is a He-111H
This was lost 20/4/1940

Can any one ID her from the code? ?I – ON ????
Lake Jonsvannet supplies Trondheim with its drinking water I think this could also be related to a clean up operation! They do not want nasty engine oil, avgas and any other nasty stuff leaking out as they get older and older and polluting the local drinking water
There was a discussion on aircraft in a Lake in Norway and drinking water on either flypast/wix within the last 2 years. If someone can get the archives to work prehaps they can look!!
At the time no one could raise them due to pollution concerns! Prehaps the boot is now on the other foot. When people realise they are safer to the public out of the water rather than in it!
re: 1. On page 110 of ‘The Mighty Eighth Warpaint & Heraldry’ there is a comprehensive descirption of the 55th’s P-51 paint schemes for all the squadrons and has an accompanying photo showing red stripes on all the squadron airplanes.
2. On page 210 of ‘The Mighty Eighth – The Colour Record’ there is another photo of 338th P-51s with red stripe”
If you look here:
http://www.lf.czu.cz/museum119/55/55fg_cs5m.pdf
you will see that there is a red stripe around the top of the cowling and fuselage on both 343, 388 machines (and maybe 38th if the row at the back is their aircraft) but not on the side of the cowling towards the wing..
There appears to be a red stripe on the side of the machine which is just visible in the second colour picture of the rear 38th Squadron machine
BTW there is a colour plate in the Mighty Eighth War Diary (admittedly not of a 388th machine) but of a 55th FG machine with the stripe in yellow!
I think that picture has been ‘edited’ to obsure/remove the serial
Also see:

44-13663 was “Pink” when with 38 Sqn coded CG-
and
http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/55thfg.jsp
She then moved to 338th Sqn – The site has her as ‘N’ but she may have been re-coded would she have kept her nickname??
BTW the 38th Sqn had aircraft coded “O”
“No doubt I missed something so please point it out if so”!
Shouldn’t they have the serial on the fin????
Thank Maytag
re “cannot tell for sure as the only picture I have showing the whole plane is of bad quality), but not CL*N.”
Can u post us a copy of that?? somone may be able to clean it up/PSP it?
