We are never going to agree over the split of Floyd Pete.I’ve always favoured 4 strings over 6.IMHO after Sid,Waters was always the guiding light.Anyway,while I’m watching some great LIVE music on the 18th,why don’t you slap DSOTM,whatever version you have,into your player and imagine what you’re missing.

On DVD…There Will Be Blood Daniel Day Lewis and the great cinematography,along with a good story,make this a must see.
El Orphanado ( The Orphanage) First saw it at the pictures and this viewing was non the less disturbing (BTW at the pictures it was shown with a DD5.1 soundtrack.The DVD has a DTS 6.1 soundtrack which adds that little bit more to the spookyness.) Subtle horror at it’s best.
The Seven Samurai the film that got me interested in Akira Kurosawa.
Downloaded from Channel 4…Boy A a film I saw during the last London Film Festival and I still can’t decide if I could forgive or condemn.
Most of the week has been taken up by watching the first 10 episodes of an Oz TV series Underbelly.Very enjoyable seeing as it’s based on a true story and an ongoing court case in Melbourne,where it was filmed (and cannot be shown in case it influences the jury).If you liked The Sopranos then this will be right up your street,although the VERY heavy sex scenes in the first 8 episodes may put a few people off.But from episode 9,they know that the story doesn’t need them.
Steve,have you heard of/seen this TV series?
BTW,I’m really looking forward to the next Will Smith film

Just taken I Am Legend out of the player,a three disc set from Korea (Region 3).Disc 1 is the original version.Disc 2 has an alternate ending which I found to be much more enjoyable than the Hollywood,sugar sweet finale of the original theatrical release.Having never read the book,I am told that this alternate ending is much closer to the book.
To answer Daz’s question,yes they really did shut down key streets in New York.They were allowed to do it on early weekend mornings.

Saw Ben-Hur:A Tale Of The Christ,a silent film directed by Fred Niblo in 1925,which was shown at The Royal Festival Hall on London’s South Bank.Some would say that was a bit of a strange venue just to watch a film,but when the composer Carl Davis is conducting his musical score with The London Philharmonic Orchestra (all 130 of them),then all becomes clear.
Being very familiar with Chuck’s 1959 version,I didn’t know what to expect.When the first reel started rolling,I didn’t know where to look.Was it the screen or the orchestra because,up until now,all I’m used to seeing under the screen is an organist or an ice-cream lady.Also had to get used to ALL the sound coming from the front,and what a beautiful sound it was.Soon I “forgot” about the orchestra and was totally glued to the screen.The sea battle totally wizzes over the ’59 version.Niblo used 6 full size ships and it really shows up the models used in the re-make.The camera work in the chariot race is superb.Way ahead of it’s time.Compare the race from the ’59 version to the ’25 version with Davis’s music score.Thanks youtube.
Walking back over Hungerford Bridge towards Charing Cross Station I had a huge smile on my face.Will this “event” ever happen again? Who knows,but I’m really glad I was where I was on this night:D .
