Just taken Yasmin out of the player. It’s a story of paranoia, racism and ignorance, centered around a Muslim family living in Bradford around the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers and it’s effect on a fiesty lass trying to balance her Muslim upbringing and a modern world she sneaks out to and is accepted by.
Then, the secrets she’s kept from friends and family become public and her world starts falling apart. The scene is set for a compelling and topical personal drama of what it means to be Asian,Muslim and British in the 21st century.
Another made-for TV-film by good old Channel 4,never afraid of “taking the bull by the horns”.

The DepartedAnother film which, like Saving Private Ryan, I have a hard time in adding to the huge praise lavished up on it.
Did anyone, apart from me,see the original that this film totally ripped off?
Infernal Affairs is much better than this Hollywood copy;) .

Good old Mr Postman dropped a few packets through the letter-box today so I started off with Wristcutters:A Love Story. It’s a dark comedy set in the after-life world for those who commit suicide, but 3 people find something to live for.A cracking black comedy.
Then I was going to watch Sweeney Todd but decided not to,having just eaten a large donner with all the trimmings. So I slapped Secondhand Lions into the player. This is a good old fashioned family film about rights and wrongs that makes you smile, laugh and cry (I defy anybody not to have a tear in their eye during “the lake speech”).Osment grows into his character throughout the film, whereas Caine and Duvall shine as the grumpy old brothers.

Apart from the epics,I also enjoyed him in Soylent Green and The Changeling.

Due to the laptop upgrade a few weeks ago,I have just discovered the joy of downloading a film to watch “live” or view at a later date (legal,of course) from 4oD,Channel 4 on Demand. You’ve got to register and give a credit card number, but if you keep to the free stuff, this service could save you a trip on a cold, windy night to your local B’buster.
I tried it out last night and downloaded,to watch later,Battle Of Haditha and The Mark Of Cain, both films telling a story of soldiers in Iraq, one from the US viewpoint, the other from a UK viewpoint. Each one took a couple of hours to download, via BT broadband and worked perfectly.I plugged an HDMI lead from the laptop to my 32″ LCD monitor, and without pressing any knobs or buttons,a 720 image was displayed.Sound was taken from the headphone jack and fed to the home cinema amp and, although they were not downloaded in Dolby Digital or DTS,they sounded bl@@dy good on the Dolby Pro Logic II Movie setting.
Both films show what happens when the chain of command breaks down and individuals are “allowed” to seek private revenge. Both seem pretty real as there are no famous actors to relate to.They both look like a “grunts on the ground” story and neither preach what is right or wrong.

Have you seen Screamers with Peter Weller?
Just taken it out of the player.Once I saw that the Johnny Walker label was red and NOT black,I knew this was a financially strapped film;) .
This really is an enjoyable, low grade,sci-fi film. Some of the SFX are a bit iffy but it was made 10 years ago and they don’t realy distract you from the story.
The main theme is “who can you trust?”,but I have one question…..Why are they so scared of rats compared to screamers:confused: .
There is a great quote that I have to include, just for all you Blade Runner fans out there (and you know who you are;) )……….
“I learned something to.I learned to love”
This is a great pick-up for around a fiver on region 2:D .
