A guy on Antique Roadshow had a complete flying panel, maybe he could donate it and be remembered for this ?? Check out the Roadshow series. cya
806 Squadron Seahawk, ” A ” could be HMS Albion ? ( or, RANS Anthorn ) ??
I was on ” Eagle ” with 804 Squadron, Seahawks, in 1954-55 and have quite a few photos of this era. ” Winkle ” Brown was our CO. I will see if I can post photos of this time. 802 also Seahawks, 813 Wyverns, 849 Gannets, 845 Whirwinds.
Excellent :eagerness: A restoration dreamworld
I was there 🙂 Yes 804 Sqdn Seahawk. I watched the pilot get out and he sat on the wing before rescue. Ex. 804 mechanic. I have the same photos, + many more of this era 🙂 cya
Ha hah ! Can’t remember ” officers ” working on our Sea Vixens :-P. Remember the AEO’s hovering about in white overalls and wearing a beret 🙂 80 year old Ex. 892, 899 Squadron LAM A/E ” worker ” 😉
Must be a few of us ” workers ” left to keep it flying ? In the FAA when ” we were needin’ ’em not feeding ’em ” 😛 ” Splice the mainbrace ” I’m now looking after 2 Tiger Moths 🙂 Happy days. Without malice 🙂
The reason for removal after he died……… metal must be removed before cremation.
It wasn’t removed before he died because it was lodged in his back near his spine, and the doctors of the day didn’t want to risk removal in case there were complications.
The metal is heavy and measures approx. 6 X 2 X 0.5 cm.
Thank you for your interest!
Nice to see the Palouste starters in fine fettle 🙂 Used to look after all the squadron units on HMS Centaur. Mounted on a/c deck tugs. 🙂
The Tiger Moth museum in Mackay Qld. Australia, has for sale a Gypsy Major with approx. 200 hours to run, currently fitted to one of our two Tigers. We have a new engine ready to fit. Contact me for further details.
Probably from 813 Sqdn. HMS Eagle, it’s home on the water ?
My CO on 804 Sqdn. Seahawks, Lossiemouth 1955. Good book to read – ” Wings on my sleeve ” Happy days 🙂
VH-EOB Devon. It is still in Mackay/Sarina, Qld. Think it now resides on a plinth at Sarina. I Know Emmet O’Brien had plenty of spares in 2012. I don’t know who the owner is tho’ 🙁
I remember a Hellcat at Lossiemouth in the 1950’s. Supposedly to have been left to the then captain by the Americans. For his personal use. Is this the one ?
Hi Andy 🙂
Very good. I have not seen that one. From left to right – ?. Laurie Aldridge ( Ex. EAA ) ?. your Dad. ?. ( can’t remember his name ? ). Bill Hutchings. CO., Vic Vize . Wujaskyk . ?. ?. Joe Clixby ( Nimbus Rep. ). Must have been taken on receipt of A/C ?
