    Palouste starter unit.

Interesting piccie of the Palouste Starter unit. Our Royal Navy Palouste’s had a drop down exhaust panel ie. Sea Vixen, no doubt still in use ? We mounted ours ( 892 Sqdn. ) on carrier deck tugs, for multi starting of A/C on deck.

Commander ” Spiv ” Leahy. Fleet Air Arm.

Dunno’ if he is still around ? He used to fly the Sea Hornet at Lossiemouth in the early ’50’s. WOW !! could he throw that A/C around on one engine/and two ! . Happy days watching 🙂

    Martlet at Yeovilton.

I seem to remember when I was working in the paint shop in 1956-7 we did sand back this A/C to reveal the markings. I believe it was Ex. USN. Like the Hell Cat ( used by the captain at Lossiemouth, wonder where that one is ? ) I have a photo of the Martlet from Yeovilton in RN colours from that era. AL246 I think?

    Swordfish flights.

I was a LAM A/E at Heron from 1961-1963 serving with 700Y, 892 ( twice ) and 899 Sqns ( excluding sea time with 892 ). Whilst with 700Y I flew in the Hunter T7 with Lt/Cdr. Mike Mc Cook-Weir. Also flew in the Swordfish during this time, flying from Yeovilton to Portland, to participate in Portland Navy Days. Once in the centre cockpit, and once in the rear cockpit. Great low level flying, simulating torpedo runs and machine gunning the crowds there. 😀 I can’t remember the Commander’s name who flew it, but, surly his name would appear in the A700 for this period ? If the A700 is original ? Happy days. 🙂 Glad to hear the A/C is still flying 🙂 I retired in 2000 as a LAME Supervisor on 747’s here on OZ.

    I was there !

Harry Graves’s farm, down Lockoford Lane, took a few bombs in the field there. Maybe long gone craters now ? No doubt built on ? I was in our air raid shelter that night, in Brimington Road. Also sat in the cockpit of a captured Me 109 in the Drill Hall close to Queens park. Happy childhood days 🙂

    Enstone Anson ?

Few years ago there was a complete Anson in one of the hangars. Don’t know what happened to it. A friend of mine has a plane there.

    Military Aircraft flights.

Perhaps a trip ” Down-Under ” is warranted ? 😀 My trip was ” AWESOME ” :diablo: Check out, http://www.mustangflights.com/ 25 minutes spent doing aerobatics and shooting up the local beaches, all for A$1500. Geriatric Jet Jockey 🙂

    Airworks-OMAN 1967-71.

I have many photos from my time in OMAN. A/C were Piston Provost, DH Beaver,
Strikemaster, DC 3, DH Caribou, Bell Helo’s, Viscount. Names that spring to mind from that era :- Hugh Heptinstall, Ron Perkins, Keith Cawley, Geoff Painter, ” Taffy ” Jones, R F Philpot, Paul Lewis, Tony Newby, Colin Wilson, Sqdr. Ldr. Alan Bridges RAF. Anyone out there from my era ? Also spent a short time at Hurn on Seahawks and Meteors. I visited OMAN last year. They have roads now 😉 And the curries are still great 🙂

I have lots of Vixen/Sea Hawk/Gannet photos in my album. Even Gannets crashing into the barrier on Hermes ! Also, a Wyvern crashing into the funnel of Eagle. Would have to scan them all first ! Just flew in a Mustang P51 today, hands on too 🙂 Awesome power ! 😀
