First flights are always nerve racking!
I’m told one of the rebuild team was on this one!
Great footage and a lovely aircraft, had a mosquito engine at the time.
Sad to see the Hellcat drop off the display scene.
Can only hope a replacement arrives to prop up the collection.
Was at shoreham in a hanger full of king airs back in September .
No pics of the T9’s ?
Maybe the ” photo police” stopped them…..
Looking at the markings i think it will end up with a large skull on the nose
80th fighter group
Bbmf Hurricane has just taken off.
No sign of any Duxford ” last of the summer wine”
Im sure it has been mentioned before, but a Bomb group assoc. in the USA
did offer funds for a repaint in their group marking many years ago but was
turned down.
They may have done ‘LOTS’ of research but the B&W photos of the original Snafu don’t show the invasion stripes going right round the fuselage….

Photos of the original aircraft show it at Duxford Pre D Day without stripes and the shot you mention.
So it must of had the full stripes at some stage.
Its a bit like TFCs Mk 14 Spitfire , at the time it was painted it was with the best Knowledge at the time, as JE-J then a few weeks later someone shows up with an original wartime shot showing the code letters as JEJ.
Ok it may not please everyone but at least they are flying for us to enjoy.
It seems this aircraft has had a hard life.

CAA wouldn’t allow it to fly in the UK, then they tried to get the FAA to ground it in the US. The FAA promptly told them to eff off.
The FAA didnt do that at all.
I might be well off the mark here, but I think it was something to do with materials used in the restoration. The CAA are anal as hell when it comes to things like that.
Yes you are way off the mark, it had nothing to do with materials used in the restoration.
This was about the time the whole TFC fleet started to be grounded so it was, at the new owners request dismantled and shipped to the USA.
Joe Clark.
Why has a large section of the airfield had the topsoil removed?
Behind the hangar the police use?
This one?
No this is another incident.
