Also, I’m going to have to disagree with you on the non-Legends Duxford shows. The May display had the potential to be a classic IWM show, but the weather left the programme battered. Despite the numerous cancellations, it was still a top notch show. September and October may have been lacking in imagination, thus giving them a feeling of “seen it all before”, but they were undoubtedly entertaining shows with some wonderful flying, as ever. I for one would be sorely disappointed if they did away with the IWM shows – they’re a British airshow tradition!

“Seen it all before” is how all the IWM shows now are.

Legends is the only one worth going to.

    Thats because TFC run it.

Sadly the IWM shows lack funds ,imagination, or interest.

I attended all the Duxford Based shows last year and IMHO a major rethink is needed by the IWM.

Anyone know any `engineers` involved with the Spit and P47 on jacks ? If so, please remind them that `ballast weights` must not be suspended in mid-air.It puts a crushing load on the tail structure. Any CAA Inspector would throw a `wobbly` and the book as well !!!

    Crushing load on the tail?

i suggest you look in your copy of the P-47 Manual.

then cross reference it with all the ADs and TOs you have on file as well.

What may be standard to some “expert” may be different to what some

    “engineer” has to comply with.

What type of engine bearer is used in the conversion?
A converted Sea Fury or custom made?

Can’t get the link to work: rebuild or replica?

    Clearly it’s been rebuilt .
Then again look at the duxford mk1 is that any different?
    Or is that a replica?
    It’s another Spitfire flying.
Let’s just celebrate that and not split hairs.
    Well done to all concerned

Nobody seems to be able to reliably overhaul Centaurus engines at the moment. There are four Centaurus-powered Furies parked in Europe at the moment due to various degrees of engine issues. Operators are watching the red German example with bated breath to see how reliable that one turns out to be.

From memory TFC overhauled a Centaurus for there single seat FB.11.
    Did that ever get used?

Many Years ago a good friend of mine ,Barry Mckee was preparing a book called ‘Hawker Survivors’
After his book Spitfires and polished metal was so popular this was the next one in line.
Aircraft from HAC, TFC , Hawker restorations and tempest projects were, among others all photographed in detail.
I last spoke to Barry around 5 years ago ,and now he is off the radar.

I got my copy of Hurricane survivors on sunday it is well worth getting for your book collection.
Congratulations to the author, who was surprised when i showed him a Hurricane project photo he’d never seen laid out in full before….

The P-40C is just the same.
Word Last legends was that this year would see some shiny aircraft over Duxford.
