Any interested in thread with some real advice ? I would do one.
You can´t have a one sided descision and it is hard to judge for the entire tiime frame.
For the western side runners-up are :
F-86 Sabre (no doubt about it)
F-104 Starfighter (to arm many NATO Forces, although unpopular with the USAF)
F-4 Phantom (NATO workhorse and my favorite)
F-15 Eagle
F-16
WarPac :
MiG-15 (the early jet)
MiG-17 (early but long lasting and much loved)
MiG-21 (developed from pure daylight F-104 like plane, to quite a capable all weather fighter)
MiG-29 (bringing 4th genration aircraft to the WarPac. At least quie on paar with the latest the NATO had when it entered service)
SU-22
Saudi will probably not acquire Chinese or Russian aircraft. Simply not prestigeous for them. It may be ok if they are buying APCs or small arms but aircraft are just so visible.
Except you buy Pakistani aircraft. Or you buy from a fellow muslim country, no matter who developed the plane. And imho the Saudi can´t count on US protection i nthe long run and it remains to be seen how long the house of Saud will be able to keep up that close connection, without risking to lose their kingdom.
Therefore purchases from the US and the UK are out of the question. Rafale could be an option.
Rafale would be one option and the only western option I can imagine. However I would not rule out other ideas. JF-17 for example.
Or into a famrer with his rifle 😀
The original Scout however was the OH-6 Loach by all means. If we look at turbine powered helicopters.
That is true. I can only figure that the larger cabin of the Bell ARH was seen as an advantage.
MAy I ask what is the point of this Rafale inlet pic ? the inlet itself is roughly the same as on an F-18A-C. Only that it is farther in front of the aircraft. And today there is more to an inlet design then aredynamic qualities.
Scorpion be carefull, much of the Intranet stuff is not cleared for publication yet. And the stealth design, is surely not cleared for detailed discussion on an internet forum.
Talk about history repeating itself. OH-6 vs. OH-58, have we not been through it before ?
I wonder if the users will be moderatly unhappy with the decision for 30 years again.
Thx for the nice words.
Frank: I´m leaning towards KB, as Sanicole is always suffering from really bad light conditions.
Naturally not, many were surprised that EF did supercruise during a hot day and did not demonstrate in the evening or in the morning.
Was standing close to the french fries stand, as we tend to have some french fires whenever we go to an airshow in Belgium or Holland. they are just much better then those in Germany. Will you to to Sanicole ? I´m considering going to KB instead, where all planes will take.off and land.
Anyway more pics :
We’re much too used to PILOTHGT/Jack type of soft-flame war and “Mine’s bigger syndrom” motivations. Let them do their home work, i’m not going to tit-feed these guys.
2seahawk
F-4 PhanaticNot clear enough though…
Imagine knowing what he doesn’t know about S’pore being the third major competition where Rafale was significantly ahead….
Dutch competition? What Dutch competition?
French propaganda you see…
Well competiitons are not everything. At the moment EF has 1 export order and Rafale 0. The Singapore competition was also quite interesting and even more interesting was the reasoning behind their decisions to drop the EF.
If we just say that the plane with more export orders is better, then the EF currently is. 😀
If we want to discuss the quality and potential of the planes things are often not the way they seem to be in the first place.
