any idea what happened to the merlins ?
Great, we have a forumite who was actualy at the dig 😀
was this one of those very deep excavations, and what sort of items were recovered, did the engine remains come out ??.
really interested in this ,as I love the way a few little pieces i have can unravel a very interesting but tragic story.. 🙂
when was the recovery , pre or post 1986 ??
is there any photo’s of DD736 ,
Thanks for your replies Graham, Bruce, Richard 😀
very nice job:).. a nice cockpit too, how long did it take to make the trailer ?
yes Rocketeer,
I have to agree, it is a helpful thread, as i have no manual, so the words a tips from Ross, and junk collector were very helpful.
the forster i have is not digital, but the old EOD type, with needle/meter a sound
, I imagine too , it is of great help to others who dont get to use there mag’s very often.. but you know what they say… practice makes perfect 🙂 😀
Many Thanks for your help ,all who replied.

Also noted that I have just found the markings DM5 just above the set of numbers noted above .. Any help here would be really helpful, .
wondering , with BAC at Weston S Mare in the war years, and after,
also with there being a MU station there, was there any breaking up of aircraft at the lweston airfield site ???.. and was the site photographed in 1946 when the RAF photographed lots of Britain ???.. Ian when we going out searching,:) I have done a bit at Charmy Down, found a few odds a ends.. including 16 Practice Mills Bombs .. ..

Hi All,
sorrry ive not given any updates, I have no access to the internet 🙁
i am using a friends laptop , i am still gathering info on the Su-7
will tell more when i am back online .Martinez PM sent 🙂
I suspect these aircraft, even if not seemed to be used, probably are in some way, and even if they were not, I imagine the Paperwork to release one them, unless you could bribe, beg , and talk to the right people, is nigh on impossible ,
Many countries, espcially those, not so friendly with the west, have no reason to help, also a different culture, many countries, like India, and the middle east , egypt, the paperwork, or beaurocracy is imense, also many laws, where as many countries see these items as relics of the past, some countries are very sketchy about military hardware, derilict or not, Ive even heard of a AVM going into a soviet bloc country all brash , trying to bargain for a IL-2 or IL-10 Sturmovik, got a little heated, and the foriegn officer ordered it to be cut up in front of him, . that was that .. we own it, your not having it, and you have no power in this country. etc, or thats the feel of the story i was told.
it seems many countries dont have the same love of aviation as the western world does, and no matter how much egg on your hat you have, it can only be done with expert diplomacy, and through the proper channels, I am not saying mind you all countries are like this.
I believe also in many countries, it is even Ilegal for Museums to sell aircraft, they are only allowed to swap , and the paperwork…. Nightmare .. ;)..
look at me.. all those lovely Sukhoi parts in afghanistan.. just sat there, out of service, and will be scrapped, thats a certainty, yet, i cant go near it, I have written to the embassy, what more can i do ?.. frustrating to say the least. 🙁
Exellent flypast by the BBMF Spitfire , and the Army Air Corp Historical flights
chipmunk, and 3 helos at salisbury today:D. (armed forces day celebrations) .. wish i had my camera
