cant get hold of him at mo, all he said was any old APU, in working order, I dont really want to be middle man, so if anyone has one, say a apu from a gnome engine, or the like, his father did mention pallouste .. but there few and far between , just the easiest and most common will do, as long as it does the job.. pm me, and i will pass it on to him (he is not on the forum)
a jet engined rickshaw.. this i gotta see… probably end up on you tube.. hope he got good brakes :D:diablo:
I will ask him lads.. and see what exactly he wants and if it has to be a gas turbine, i believe its for a mad capped scheme to power a rickshaw… 😀
yes.. i know it sounds crazy.. and it probably is.. but yes.. a rickshaw.. I ask you :diablo::D
still if he wants to spend the cash, thats up to him ..
Well if anyone does get themselves a Wessex cockpit section, get in touch, I’ve a number of items stored in my shed. I had the intension of doing one myself untill XV677 came along.

.
CRIKEY .. there was even a Whole MIG 21 Cockpit there that year.. who owned THAT .. 😮 … thats a nice one to see, was it a ex Babimost machine ??
Thanks Very much for posting the new pics, good to see, I wasnt enquiring if it was for sale though, as I had thought it had a good home, so to speak, interesting the guy who owns it used to fly it .. bet he could tell some interesting yarns….
I actually think , a wessex or whirly cockpit are one of the best sized, for manouverability .. the cockpit is quite small, when it is just a cockpit, where as most fighters you have all that nose and engine air intakes to carry around,
Wessex and Whirly types are huge though, I think its more the case they dont come up very often, there was a load of them at RNAS Preddanack, cornwall, and there still is, in use by the MOD. but a couple of years ago I heard some of the more damaged hulks , XM870 and XP160 I think were Scrapped a couple of years ago.. it is a shame none of these had the cockpits saved.. as there wasnt much else to save,.. I only found out about a month after they were gone
… Gutted I was !!. 🙁 .. I dont think they were even on the DSA website, ,one day they were there.. the next.. GONE .. Shame..
I am just chuffed so many have been saved in museums, as complete aircraft.
the sort of wreck i was after was something like whirly XP344 in North luffenham, But I believe this still to be in use,
Found this, believed to be a Wessex, outside a shed at Bournemouth in 1995. Have no idea where it came from or where it went. Inside was full of bits and pieces and the only identification I could find was on a panel marked XT487, But I know that’s a shot in the dark..:)
Now THAT i Just LOVE.. i wonder what happened to it ??
whirly cockpit
i saw a gorgeous cockpit of a whirly XJ758 on demobbed, is it still about ??
it was in welshpool ,powy’s wales.. does it ever make it to the fest ?
Sorry for to the demobbed web site owners, but i nabbed your pic to show on here as no one mentioned it, its a cracker,
demobbed is a great site, for aviaiton fans to dribble over .. ive spent many a hour looking through there photo’s 😀
I did try , very hard to obtain a wessex cab, wrote to loads of places, phone was red hot, but to no avail, sadly, you just dont see many wessex hulks up for grabs very often, .. there are quite a lot still with the MOD . for various reasons, many are in use for fire/rescue drill, there are a couple however, who i wonder are actually used at all, ?… one day the dsa or the like will dispose of them, roll on that day, hope i have a full wallet, lol.. :diablo:
noticed 2 cockpits up for sale,
and a Delfin
You may have already seen this but NEAM has just aquired a Wessex (full airframe). Don’t know exactly where from but judging by the pics it will need a fair amount of TLC 🙂
Ex Lasham 🙂
Hi Fouga..
Here Here that man !!.. I was and still am mad on the wessex, and whirly, and there are plenty of duff airframes around, but none are available, dont know why, red tape, or still in use etc, but i tried for months to buy a wessex cockpit, or whirly even one from a paintball yard, there are lots of them around, and the wessex would make a exellent project and a welcome addition.. sadly.. there seems to none around for the bidding..:(
I hit a brick wall wherever i tried to find one.. if you know a way around this.. I am all ears 😀
I only know of one cockpit of a whirly ,and thats with Mr R Jarmann .. in wales..and i think it is restored.
Not sure how you come to that conclusion Merkle, I would say it’s the other way around from years ago when you could see loads of aircraft stacked up in scrapyards.
look at how many Jaguars, second gen Harriers, Tornados, and even two Typhoons there are in museums or private hands.
There are an awful lot of Tonkas out there, so a lot are likely to get scrapped.
I think the Nimrod threads will show how the MoD are allowing aircraft to be saved for preservation.
Perhaps i worded my statement wrong .. 😮
I understand, the BAAC, and many fine museums, and some organisations, have managed to secure some smashing aircraft for preservation. and rightly so, I also realise a aircrafts future is at a much better status in the hands of a museum than say a private individual,
but it seems .. i may be wrong, that to approach the mod, for example ,and say “instead of shredding that one, do you mind awfully if you would let me buy the cockpit to restore for display???” for instance or say a range target, ie the meteor on sennybridge.. and someone offered cash, rather than seen it scrapped, it seems a very beaurocratic awkward system to get into, and unless you are in there system, your inquiries fall on deaf ears ???. i suppose, i would ask.. or should have asked, what about a PRIVATE individual apporaching a Govt department/contractor . MOD for such a thing, as and when a suitable item arises.. How does He/she go about putting in a bid, etc to secure a item, that they require, a person who does not own a company, or licences for scrapping etc , just joe bloggs on the street, who wants to purchase a scrap Military “BIT” of plane
it all just seems a ball of red tape … I could be wrong though ??.. its just knowing how to do such a venture ?
just thinking aloud, but i do wonder “why” do they shred the airframes now ??. is it to do with speeding the process along, or more to do with insurance,HSE, or some other beaurocratic claus ???
Ie, if someone in general, was looking for a single seat, say Jaguar, or simaller, Artist, cockpit restorer, museum, for what ever reason, who would they approach to enquire , before the item was shredded, ?? to aquire such a item.. or does current Law ,Policy, Protocol, forbid this ??
i didnt think you could buy Tornado fuselages, ??. I thought they now shred them, in the scrapping process… considering how many have been up for scrap in the past couple of years, you dont see many surviving fuselages in private hands ???
