That’s a lovely pic Keith, guessing it’s at Kemble or Aston Down?
or could it be westonzoyland.. there was lots of them there in the early 50s 🙂
Does anyone have any info/pictures on the following aircraft.
Hampden that crashed at Low Farm Hemswell 9/11/40
Lancaster JB 378 crashed Binbrook village 1/1/44 460 Sqn.
Lancaster PA 185 ,300 Sqn crashed Stotts Farm 18/2/45.
not shining up yer shovel are you hindenburg :diablo:
i only got air britains, s i guess i know just as little as you to date ??
ps,
sorry to sound really nieve:o .. but what is a translite panel, and what purpose does it serve over a older standard type panel ??:o:)
dimensions are
.. ****** cant find a tape measure… typical in my house, will measure properly tomorrow, when i get one from work:(
at a guess, it would be 2ft x 1.6 ft very roughly, most instrument holes are about 3″ the others around 2″
and the picture wont load.(keeps coming up with FAIL) .. god i am having fun tonight.. dont you just hate computers 🙁
i do beg your pardon Air ministry .. I told someone it was from a manchester scrap yard, and they told me, more than likely failsworth.. so its was a different place .. Hmmmm.. i gotta say i too am wracking my brains, was up till 1am looking at cockpit pics, to try and find out what it is… there seems to be way too many holes for a light aircraft and it looks ( forgive me if i am wrong) like its full of translite fitting holes. wouldnt be early airliner would it ??
transport .. Now i am really considering or wondering , where next to turn to to find out what it is. as soon as i find out ,i can start adding instruments to it :) i even thought beverley maybe.. but yet again proved wrong, the only panel it came close to looking like… and then it was wrong, was the vickers Valiant “PORT ” panel . back to front, but i cant see the top of the valiant panel in a pic, as it is obscured by a higher panel … Groan… 🙁
I am sure i will get there, one thing is for sure, its gota be quite rare if none of you lot havent seen one before .. i wonder if by slight possibility it came from a very obscure type ???
stamp says DHC bot in circle, and above it is stamped the numbers C2F381 3:confused:
looking on the web, the only things near it is Valiant, or i wondered early comet ??… its a long shot though,
i wonder if they had Sea Venoms in the yard at failsworth, as a Vampire panel looks very different…
I also wonder.. could it be early post war “conversion MOD” . A panel that was made up by EEP to replace a american type in UK service to take UK instruments ??… the likes of Neptune, B25 , etc ???.. as for others, i cant see pics of cockpits avro ashton etc ,also i read EE had a small hand in seaplane stuff, ?? saunders roe,
the plot thickens… anyone have a idea if they think i should ask the boffins at the RAF/RNAS museums ??? :)
EEP28 is probably an inspectors stamp,so will not help ID the panel other than it being Preston/Warton/or poss Samlesbury ??(assuming they also used EEP stamps) manufactured.
rgds baz
the stamp, is not a inspection stamp, its in yellow small type decal on the back, very small, there is a inspection stamp on the blanking plate blocking off one of the instrument holes, stamped in a circle, DHC .. i gather the yellow typed ident isnt a inspection stamp, saying that, if EEP is on it, it must be something they were contracted to make, as far as i can tell, its a starboard panel, for a twin or qaudruple engined aircraft, and i imagine the “Church window” type hole in the bottom is for the control stick ..
also the other info i got is it came from Failsworth.. Manchester early 1980s . from what i see from previous threads, Balliol ,brigand, vampire T11,firefly,swift , provost were all at the yard, i reckon it might have from one of these.. the only twin seaters are brigand, balliol provost ,t11, but i dont think its one of these, does anyone know of any other types seen at failsworth ??.. it could be a clue to the panels origin ??
hornet panel
heres the radio panel Dave, from PX273 crashed 30/9/46 in south wales
Sorry Dave, ive tried for a hour to send it onto this forum, and it wont go, just keeps failing.. any way you can PM me with your email, and i can try a send it that way ?? :o:(

had a great day, apart from the rain and wind… got a unknown british panel, guy found it in manchester scrapyard in the early 80s noticed on the back it says EEP 28 .. and definately prob Stb panel, me thinks looking at it, contract built pembroke, sea prince, as it is defenately not canberra or lightning .. will post a pick soon 🙂

and of interest for you Mr Collins, a crash site recovered radio panel from a DH Hornet.. i will forward pics, i wondered if it was of use to you ??
