on the subject of EB146.
Ive known the site since i was a boy, but never ever seen a photo of the aircraft…. being so many halifax types were built i am doubting that one exists. but you never know ??.. where would be the best place to find a photograph of a perticular aircraft ?
it would be nice to send to the family, and if i can find a couple of pieces from many moons ago, i would gladly send them to the Don’s:) family .
and when is popham.. sorry to be lazy … but no harm in asking you good folk 😀
What a interesting thread,
EB146 was my first ever dig, as a 15 year old boy,
with the south west aircraft recovery group, in the 80s, a cold misty day in november i remember pulling bits a bobs from the field next to the wall, there was small fragments everywhere, us kids (me and Kev Butler) were totally enthralled with aviation history ,myself especially from that moment on, we also felt quite humbled.. it was a experience to say the least, incidentally a a P38 Lightning flown by “Jack tuggle Jameson ” crashed on the same farm in dec 44 , the Severnside Aviation Society had a big dig there, and recovered engines etc, I am sure if i look into one of my boxes i still have a couple of bits of both aircraft.
also i remember , getting home exhausted, and washing my hands , which were frozen, and they stung me like hell fire, without realising i had laserated my hands to ribbons tugging on jagged small bits of metal in the small shovel sized hole in the ground on the site of EB146 … Ive worn good Garden gloves ever since 😉
By the size of your pockets and the size of your dreams Chris… but not necessarily in that order. 😉
I like it 😀
I got deep pockets too .. shame there empty at mo, lol, will have to start selling.. i got loads to put on fleabay 🙂 ..
hmmm, drink it all lol.. no, i agree, I dont believe anything is cheap, and the work is well worth it in the end, my only personal problem is ex wifey went and got me up to our.. or should i say MY neck in debt, a lesson learned you could say .. so I have to start small, and bit by bit,
I wouldnt know Cees…. 😮
how do you price such objects ??
went for 175 quid… not me i am afraid .:o
I can send you copies of WP838 photos plus some other stuff
which may interest you i will pm U later
Many thanks … really appreciated 😀
I got it wrong , whitley it is then, i was 90% sure it was whitley , but looking at the U/C door , it didnt look simaller to the ones i saw on the net, must be the way its laying after the crash. 😮
G….. Damn it.. you mean my old set of flippers and snorkel wont suffice :diablo::D
… now ive read it.. i cant get that tune out me head either :(:D
any chance i could see a copy of WP838 ??..pretty please 😀 .
The piece of airframe i was given ,was from wp838 she burnt out on a hill after the crash, nothing left now, just a few molten blobs..
ive never seen a pic of her, it would be nice to put in a frame with the piece i have, and also to show the villagers of walton in gordano where she come down, my cousin owns the village shop, and she would love to display a picture i am sure.
I flew both WP838 and WK610 while serving as a staff cadet with
with Nbr 3 Air Experience Flight.
I left in 1966 prior to the accident but understood that they were
practising formation aerobatics. The commanding Officer of
Bristol University was in one of the Aircraft.
WK610 in my time was a dedicated BUAS A/C WP838 was allocated
to 3AEF. Although both units pooled A/C.
many thanks for your reply… this is the first time ever i have heard of someone who flew them, i managed to find a photo of WK609 .. but never been able to find any photo’s of wp838 and wk610.. the pilots were very lucky, there chutes only just opened in time. WK610 .. is still there in the nature reserve, and sadly for me, the nature people wont even let me go to the area of the crash , its in a boggy ditch on wetlands, they never did recover it, although in recent years i heard of a chap who owns the wing tip from it .
do you have any photos of your chippie days ???
