sod it, Just seen Pics for the first time of XP399, Whirlygig, at the wheatsheaf pub,
Bloody 3 years too late ,Hummpf :(,
I suppose she has gone to the great “Chopper” in the sky, or part of your Nintendo set,
Isnt re-cycling GREAT as the Advert says 😡
Yes Sorry David,
I had trouble downloading them.
I have contacted the paintball park this Morning by email , asking for there advice on “Who ” is best to speak to regarding airframes,
I was told by Rod at the IHM, that the Preddanack Wessex on the whole are no good to them, as they are too corroded as whole airframes, and that it would probably worth a try to find out if I could purchase one of the wrecks
I am quite keen on XM870 , which is on her side and will never be restored its too far gone as a restorable airframe, but as a cockpit could be a Valid project, as maybe are aswell Wessex’s XP160, XS522 , XT468 ,XS516.
and Being it is Down the road from me, what about Wessex XS513 on yoeviltons fire dump ,is she being saved ??, She is in too good condition for the likes of me to cut, But if she was going to be cut I would be interested in her cab,
as with the Poor sad old bird at Guernseys fire dump XS888, thats if she has’nt been allready disposed of ??
Ive pretty Much contacted most Paintball parks,
I am left with Cowbridge and Bicton,
Where????
“International Helicopter Museum”,
Weston Super Mare,
” North Somerset”
More Pics !! of weston museum:)
1 shot of the RN Wessex XS149 in the Grave yard , (parts reclemation/awaiting restoration) 2 More internal shots of the Oldest Wessex again, Panel, and Overhead, and one of the internal of Wessex XT472 ” Geronimo ” which is in a pretty bad state of corosion, as is the cab of XS149,
as i said, any one got any bits they could let go, no matter what it is, Please PM me,
InternationalHelicopter Museum Visit !!
Just thought i would share some pics of my visit today to the Museum,
I take it back what i said in the past, Mr Ap Rees and staff were Very helpful, and its a cracking museum, well worth a visit,
I needed pics of there Oldest wessex they had, just to see what instruments I needed, some of them are Very simaller to the old aircraft of early post war years, espcailly Altimeter etc,
I did , Did being the word ,have a few of them with the lot i give with 887,
so I will have to source some again:D.
I would be pleased if you can check your lofts, sheds etc, for any Parts from the wessex cockpit, it would be a tremendous help if that were at all possible.
First 2 shots are of the oldest wessex type they have , (1959) then one of (i forget the serial No) which is pretty gutted inside. and the last 3 are of XR526 which i was told was given to the Museum, ,and it was believed previously used by the RAF as a Battle damage repair G.I frame,
I wish I had a Low loader ,I really liked XR526
LOL 😀
I was shown around By Rod, who is the restoration Manager, even in the workshops ,and outside to the “Graveyard” which i found REALLY interesting,
there were quite a few airframes “out Back” , so Ive posted a few for your interest, also included is some shots of the Interior,
I never realised the “roof” of the Cab actually Un-bolts , so I will be on the lookout for one of them too,
Anyway for all you wessex fans, heres some pics,
(I will try and get some of the S-55 Whirlwind When I can) 😀
XH174 Storage
I did go and see CANBERRA XH174, she is Just a shell, not even a floor in it,
and it is Massive , the whole reason I let WH887 Go was because of its size,
so this is the reson I would Not buy XH174, also she really is a Tube thats it sadly, and it would take a Major enginneer to refit all the floor etc from scratch. which i am not, and i dont have the tools to do such a thing, and if i had the room for XH174, Why would I have sold WH887??, simply because of Storage etc, to get a good start, i believe a cockpit NEEDS to be near electricity,Lighting , and all the tooling, Just to get it off to a good start, I have that facility, but all be it very small, (just a bit bigger than Roy coates garage “sea Hawk”) just look at how tight it is for his resto in the early days, yet he managed it, I wonder how roy would have faired if he never had access to basic tools, Basic electrical DIY tools ,to at least start the cleaning process.
I didnt take selling WH887 lightly, and will not make the same mistake of fooling myself again,
I Hope this makes my reasoning ,More understandable ,;)
But not surprising James eh !,after all he was a politician :D.
He was a good war leader but obvously not 100% honest.cheers baz
No, you wrong he was HONEST, He just TWISTED the words a Bit :diablo::D
yes i see your point ,if i had the room and knowledge, i would try a restore a flyer, as it is, I dont hold a pilots licence, and doubt i ever will, I have a interest in old aviation, thats about it really, well anything old, Ive got a old 60s scooter, I like old engines, (ive 3 old stationary engines,Nothing specail but old all the same,
I wish I never did find everything so interesting, My downfall though is severe “Contact Dermatitis” on my fingers on both hands, and i only have to hear the word “OIL” and my hands come out in Blisters !, Bloody infuriating, and i have it for life, but i dont have pots of money, infact very meagre really, so I have to buy a project that no one else would want as its all i can afford, hence why i am allways looking at “bargain Basement” stuff,
But i know when i get to work on it, my hands will crack and swell up for a few days afterwards, eve if i wear gloves etc,I have no strength in My hands, which is such a shame as i love tinkering with things 🙁 .
I Have just Bought a Wessex Flight Panel, and plan to restore that with all the clocks, But one day hope to have the “Cab” to put it in !!, Not the whole thing as its too big, But Just the greenhouse, cockpit, as it is small enough to move about, and take to shows etc, all be it a long time away from now.:)
its such a shame after selling my Canberra ,as it took Years to find a cockpit,
but with it being so big i could not do it, i was fooling myself, that swhy i had to sell her so her future was preserved, I just hope with all the wessex that are about on dumps etc, I can secure a cab ,eventually,
Good one Peter ,LOL:D:D:diablo:
but will “9” be in Place of “NIEN” ???:dev2:
