The panel shown is from either a Wessex ‘HU’ Mk 5 or a HAS Mk 3 it is not from a Sea king as the cwp slot goes from l to r on the Sk and is mounted vertically in the Wx.

    So, it’s reader beware!

Two errors in Air Britain “Broken wings” book: (1) the date – out by a day, and (2) location – it’s Myrtle Road not Foxhall Road, though there are close to one another – third of a mile.

To be fair, I believe Air Britain record most if not all of there series of books from official RAF/FAA Records, and I suppose all they can do is write whatever ,the RAF officer decided to write in the first place, you should see some of them, sometimes it might say , 1.5 Miles west of a town etc,
the crashes were that common in the 1940s that sad as it was, they never really investigated like today, they just swept it up, filed a report card, that was pretty much it,
And no please dont think I am trying to teach you to suck eggs:), Just letting you know, even though air britain are brilliant books, the records Can be Sketchy sometimes,

as for the 29th of June 1949, there is Nothing Listed, Next crash is on the 30th a, spitfire miles away from Ipswich:D

Flamin NORA ,have i bought the wrong thing ??

Thanks for that Zoot, I hope he isnt anti aviation, I doubt he is anti cash though, like most scrappies, thats why i thought i would find out more about her, found a couple of pics of her in service,as well,

I might have made a cockup, But that WESSEX instrument Panel, well i just put in a offer , and he accepted, But ive just realised, he has listed it as
    a WESSEX HAS5 panel,
Ive just done a search on the web for the HAS5 and all I keep getting is SEAKING, which is worrying as I have no interest in them as they are too modern, ,he advertised it as a WESSEX panel, Which is it??, a seaking or a Wessex, if it is Seaking, I wont be buying , as this is not the item i have thought it was listed as ??

he says there is a label with these figures on it stamped in the back ?
    WB.58.80259 B5801349134,

Thank you both for researching this dilemma.

Nothing crashed on Foxhall Road. Me mum was near there then!

So Sqn Ldr Beddow’s Vampire was VF347 and it’s still a toss-of-a-coin between Hornet and Meteor being the second aircraft that did not crash.

just updated my last post !!;)

    Wessex XT681

Sorry to bother you all again, 😮

But after a Hour of searching with no luck ,I am trying to find out anything about Wessex XT681 , which first flew in 1967, acording to De-mobbed up to last year it was in a scrap yard in the UK,

After More searching i found out it is in a scrap yard in Wallingford, which is next to RAF Benson ,Oxfordshire,

there is NO piccy on Demobbed, and I wondered if any of you lived nearby, or had seen it, or would know anything about it, or the owner of the scrapyard??

Ive trawled through the net and found out all i can at the Moment,

does anyone know if it restorable, or Battered to a pulp??

Sorry to trouble you all again, But i have hit a blank , and just on the off chance someone out there may know a little more, so a stab in the dark, But no harm in asking ,
    Thanks again
    CC

Heres a pic i found on the Net, Many thanks to Tony Osbourne for the Photograph,(i hope you dont mind me using it for illustration purposes

    Darn Beaten to it 😀

    Yep G is right,

VF347, crashed Foxhall Road ,Ipswich, Stalled during Practice attack during exercise “Foil” and crashed in Park, Pilot Killed, + one other Killed on the ground .

These are the exact words noted in the Air Britain “Broken wings” book,

there are a few other aircraft on that day that crashed ,i dont know if they are near you , But here goes,

there is NOTHING in the RAF Air britain file for the date of the 29th, it is dated the 28th

list of incidents that day are Meteor F4 VT148 crashed at Lindholme after Mid air collision with Meteor VW783, which also crashed near Finningley, 28/06/49.

Then we have Procter C.3 HM368 which swung on landing and undercarraige colapsed 28/06/49

then there is the Vampire wee allready said at Ipswich ,

I wonder if it is a FAA aircraft ,that is indeed if another did come down on that day ??

    .

ahh, I see XM692, well XN299, is a complete aircraft, so i would not have room or money for that, as for XJ758, i never realised she May be up for disposal ??

Merkle with all due respect I wouldnt bother wasting your time re the Whirlwind at Midland Air Museum.

It was discussed at board level recently as to the various options open and what course of action to take.

As it has a local connection (it was used by Alvis at Coventry Airport as a test bed) the decision was made not to dispose of it and that it should remain in store (albeit outside) for future restoration.

    Ahhh Point Taken Phantom, 😉

thanks for the Tip, If you had not said , i would have not known,
and if it is a important airframe to them locally , then its better the MAM,can do something with it when they can.
    😀

“But I would like to make one thing clear: it wasn’t the germans! It was the Nazi’s. Not every german was a nazi, but the majority of nazi’s were germans.”

The German people were happy with the rise of the Nazi party. They were happy with a regime which murdered whole sections of their own society. They were happy to support a regime which annexed some Countries while going on to conquer and occupy others. They were happy to turn a blind eye to the programme which was to rid Germany of the ‘evil Jew’ who was responsible for all the problems faced by Germany. They were happy while they were the oppressors. To consider Harris as a mass murderer is to tar him with the same brush as those who sought to destroy a whole race. There was one easy way in which the Bomber Offensive could have been stopped, and that was for Germany to surrender. Germany chose not to.

This trite little phrase “Not every german was a nazi, but the majority of nazi’s were germans.” does absolutely nothing to excuse the actions of Germany or its people. To think otherwise is to condemn history to repeat itself. That attitude and belief in fact beggars belief. Just remember that the 55,000 men of Bomber Command who lost their lives neither wanted nor sought a war. It was thrust upon them by Germany.

    Regards,

    kev35

    Its allready happening Kev,
Look at how the palestinian TV have been brainwashing children to the glory of Suicide Bombings, Martyrdom, and the Evil west,
Fact is Most young germans in 1944 were BRED fanatics, who were children
in the early rise of the Nazis,
Also the Corruption of the Early Nazi regime, which silently got rid of Members of opposing parties, Holding secret talks with big industry leaders,Laying the path so to speak,
I believe the for the most ordinary german , he just wanted there national pride back, to stop living under the Abhorant Treaty of Versaille ,to recover there borders from pre ww1 days which as far as they were concerned were stolen from them, mainly orchestrated by the french ,Germany was made to pay for all of the wrongs of WW1, and then this new German national socailist workers Party ,to a ordinary german ,Promises Work, Food on the table, National pride , and generally a better life, so they the dumb masses Voted them in, and with all the propoganda, who can blame them, they knew no different, Then when it came to the time of the start of ww2,I wonder Just how many germans thought ,(OH ****) what have we voted in, and at that point it was your “WITH ” the Nazi Party, Or “Death Camp” I know what i would Choose if faced with that dilema, self preservation, its human nature, How do you say NO with a Gun in your face ????.
or your own people classing you as a traitor ??
its the politicians who weave there web, Power Hungry Monsters, Clever and cunning, and us dumb sheep just follow along, just trying to get on with our simple lives, I know there is little to match the horrors of Nazi germany, But look at others from that time, What about imperial Japan, or Facist Italy and Spain. , and one of the WORST Monsters of all STALIN, and we were friends with Him, He killed more people than Old Adolf , Most of them his own,

Thats Why i distrust all Politicians ,leaders to this day, You never know what there up too behind the scenes, although Nowadays it is more about CASH than it is Gaining Living space, and Invasion.:(

Moderation Dunkirk, (you can stone me too now )

I din’t say you were tolerating anything and I’m not accusing you of being pro-German but
if you ask why the RAF (and the USAAF) did not moderate the allied air campaign against Germany…
(why use a Lancaster when a Mosquito would do…)
you certainly have to ask why Germany didn’t use moderation against its enemies…or even ask why it started the war in the first place.

It it because the allies are seen as “the good guys” and should not have waged war to the fullest extent?

    .

Theres ONE German Action that has ALLWAYS puzzled me, regarding Moderation, and perhap some of you can answer it ??

When the German forces surrounded us at Dunkirk, ,WHY were the German Panzer Units TOLD by High Command to STOP,Gudarian or Rommel from what i believe to have been told was Furious, as the Panzer Division was within Easy reach of the Trapped BEF, and could have captured our Army on the beach,
they certainly had Us pinned down ,and given the order could Have drove the Panzer Army on ,and with our Army in Dunkirk out of Ammo, Supplies, and low Morale, they could have captured the whole Remnants of the BEF that were there, effectively or Possibly Knocking us out of the war ,
its one of those mysteries Ive never understood, the Whole Might of the German war Machine surrounding us at Dunkirk, and they stopped a few Miles
from the beaches, Can anyone shed any Light on this ?????

interesting situation Chris. If it were me, I would buy the panel, equip it as best I could then if a project comes along that you can grab, I would in turn sell the panel to finance the new project!

ahh, another conundrum, I will have to start selling again, most of my cockpit money has gone, I opened the tin and CRIKEY where’d all that Go !!!!,

I know Mrs has been using it to pay the bills , GGGGrrrrrrrr, 😡

Just hope i will get some of it back, !

Oh well thats family life i suppose :(, I have enough for the panel, and more, but it will put a big dent in the pocket if a wrecked wessex, or whirlygig comes along, perhaps I should approach Midland Air Museum, I suppose No harm in asking:confused:

and maybe predanneck ( god i will never spell that one correctly:o )

I would only pay scrap value, Unless its a Very tidy shell with most of its glass intact,
