Well had a quick look in there for there for the yankee gear which was supposidy left behind, sadly half way down my torch ran out with the glow from a load of eyes at the bottom in the torch beam. Not sure if they was the reflectors from willys jeeps or immigrants:diablo:

Probably the Cornish Pixie’s, a bit far for Lepricorns on there Hols :diablo:

Joking aside, :D, I think not much in cornwall has been touched because, of its distance, somerset has only really been hit in the past few years, as recoveries run out in the east, I live in bristol and even for me its a bit far, perhaps you could start a goup, in cornwall, Might be a idea, there must be loas of sites that have not been investigated,

would love to hear more about the tunnel, is it one of those dumps from ww2 ???/

Many Thanks Chris, You are of course right, it is no longer a aircraft, I should really be looking at it as a fancy large caravan, that needs a new chassis to sit it on, 😉
and it has to be fit for purpose, I will keep your advice in mind,:) it is so easy to think of it as a aircraft, when really it lost its aviation purpose many years ago,:D

Many thanks again, thats a good website and i have now added the towing Reg’s to my favourites list !

    WH887 Update.Parts Reclemation

Hi Group, I have just done some updating on my web page ,on the News section, and I also stumbled across actual radio chatter/footage of a Canberra in Combat on You tube, so I have added a Canberra Attacks ! Page, also on the bottom is a vid of Canberra’s In Vietnam,
You may or may have seen it, but i thought i would share it with you anyway, as I have never seen or heard real footage of a Canberra in a Combat situation.

I have tried to clear up the spelling mistakes Grammar etc , but my english was never much good,LOL,:D,

Can anyone out there tell me HOW i get the likes of a search engine to recognise my little website, so I can get more People to look if they so wish ??
as i dont know how to put it on the likes of Google ,or MSN search engines, it just doesnt come up , Computers “The BAIN of My Life”, LOL.

    Slimfast !!

Chris, I take it you’ve dispensed with the pile of red ballast that sits under the bomb-aimers prone position? That weighs in at a fairly hefty sum, and with rather a lot of aft airframe long-since shed the old girl certainly won’t be needing ballast any more 🙂

I left a post on your WZ guestbook – if you need any diagrams or pics of TT.18 cockpit layouts, give me a shout and I’m sure I’ll be able to see you right. I’m excited for you with the progress on 887, I do have rather a thing for the old Tow-bird 😀

    Timbo

    Thanks Timbo !!,
I never even realised there was any Ballast wieght !!, Ive not got my hands on her Yet, But she is in Capable Hands with Doctor Goodall and Nurse Halley :D.

Thanks Again Nige + Kieth for doing this truth be told I dont have the equipment to remove such large objects as Legs and Ballasts ,will be light as a feather once HistoricAero have done a good operation on her, “Who Needs Slimfast”LOL, :diablo::D

when she is Mobile we must get the old “Brothers together WK126 and WH887,perhaps Kemble Next year, who Knows !! what the future holds.

Looking at them Pics I really am going to have to get the Nose wheel Door from WK124(Groan) all those Rivets to drill out LOL:D

    Ebay Relics,

I know some agree and some dont, Thats life, But hasten to add, I begrudgingly am selling some odds a sods on ebay at mo, to go towards my project,
Rightly or wrongly, I dont really care, as these pieces I had allready Bought, and they were in a real mess, I also have spent days and days over the past couple of years trying to clean them up,

people fail to realise if you have bought something in a terrible state and taken loads and loads of hours to clean it up, to a presentable piece , they dont remember most of the time the reason the price is high is because of the hours of work thats gone into lovingly restoring the relic,

Yes I am selling some of my collection,(begrudgingly) But like I said, it is only things I have Payed for, and now are surplus ,
as for those selling bits of tinning for stupid prices, well not impressed at all,
Hence to say, If I dont know anything about it i wont make it up,(like others on ebay etc have been known to do) .

I wonder with the very strong feelings regarding selling aircraft relics, is this the same for say a German ww2 helmet , or anything else, as oddly enough it seems only to be with the aircraft fraternety that seem to have this View,

Does anyone out there collect “Other” Militaria, and have come across the same feelings ???,

My Dad flew from Babdown Farm in 43/44

    Planemike

    Hi Mike,
I believe that it is out of print, Howevor, that should not stop you finding a copy , 😀

I think I got mine after a search on the Amazon Book site, they are not a rare book, but you might have to do a little hunting to find one 🙂

It must be true LAC did fly Solo !!

I have just flicked through “Wings over Gloucestershire” and to be honest there are quite a few LAC casualties , What done it for me to proove that LAC DID have flights SOLO, was out of the Many one of the Incidents was a
    Single Seat Hurricane !!
    details below.

infact there are 3 incidents in one month in May 1941.

first was Hurricane P2968, of No 9 FTS ,Undercarraige collapsed on heavy landing at Babdown Farm, 1257535 LAC C.R.Tapp, 7/5/41.

Second was Hurricane V7444 No 9 FTS crashed four Miles SW of Stroud at 12.25 Hours Cockpit full of smoke Pilot unable to see,1255522 LAC L.Eate on 16th May 1941

Thirdly, Hurricane P3807 No 9FTS Crashed on approach to Babdown Farm after engine cut at Low Alt ,1285910 LAC L.W.Daniel, 27th May 1941.

Infact it seems most accidents from 9FTS in 1941 involved LAC rank,

Well Ive never really noticed it before, But i think it is pretty conclusive that LAC’s DID fly on there own, all be it with the flying training Sqaudrons

The Information i got from 2 sources,
1 was a very good little book called, “Wings over Gloucestershire” by John Renison,

and then I done a search on the Commonwealth Wargraves Commision website.

I Agree, it is odd that a LAC was the only casualty, Howevor the crash date and details tally up, But i wonder if he really was Alone as the book said “Solo”

or does this mean “Solo” aircraft,
I agree more investigation Needed, the crash cards at Hendon should be able to tell you a bit More, if not that then the Sqn ORB at Kew I believe may tell a bit more,
The only other incident i know of was a Fairey Battle in wales that was Taken without Permission by a LAC for a Jolly , and sadly he crashed ,

    J C Cann

LAC Cann details, it seems to me he was the SOLE occupant of the aircraft , and as such is the only casualty,
Might be worth sending off for the crash card from Hendon though to be sure,

And what a strange show it was as well. I know the weather didn’t help, but the word ‘crap’ springs to mind 🙁

Funny thing was, had to drive past Western Toyland enroute down the M5… and no sign of any wonderful museum there !!

I hasten to add Mr Kev 35 I did not start the Western toyland slur on those wo died there, it was this chap above, and whos remarks i found offensive ,like you rightly said, hence why i used it in our defence, I did not start this, but it seems people are very quick on here to run down peoples efforts, which infuriate me , it seems any chanc they get , they make sly comments deriding what we are trying to achive there,

as for the Canberra yes, i admit I am no expert, but with my friend at westonzoylands guidance, i will complete her, if anything all ready I have amassed a lot of parts to put in her, so your altimeter comment is quite comical, and i would do nothing to the canberra that could destroy her ,
I have the right tools and equiptment and help, she will be finished,

as for “childish ” outburst and Rants, I am not a Mad Muslim Cleric, Am i not allowed to Defend myself when others scorn us, and generally take the mickey,

I only came on this thread to see the nice pics of the Yoevilton airshow, only to find to my Horror , MORE sly nasty remarks against myself and others involved, I had to jump to our defence,

I will never win a argument with the likes of you sir, and I accept I am not as good with words as you are, No doubt , you will answer this in your usual fashion, using big words to make me look “childish” or whatever Profound new word you can call me,

as for research, when I need it I know exactly where to look, I have had dealings with Kew and Hendon Before, Not including the local press, and
local people. I dont need it yet , and when i do i will get it, I too have done over 20 years of research and know what avenues i need to take to find it,
I have it all anyway from a local historian in Westonzoyland.

    To Rob Ant ,
I Apologise Profusely for interupting this thread, I just wanted to see some photos of the show , which were exelent , I would have gone but never realised it was on, even if it was to take some pictures of the Hunters, which are one of my Favs ,
But I came to look at the thread, and low and behold, yet again there was some nasty comments from people against our project, I hope you understand I had to defend our corner,
